Ok. I figured that would get your attention. Now that we are just days away from the big opening weekend at the lake, I'm just curious to know what everyone will be grilling/cooking over the weekend.

I will be firing up the BGE (Big Green Egg for those of you who aren't egg heads) tomorrow morning and smoking 3 - 5 lb Boston butts for the next 24 hours. If any of you have an egg and would like the recipe I will be happy to send it to you...let me know. (Best BBQ you will ever eat . . . and that's a guarantee. If you don't believe me, stop on by for a taste!).

For us it will be:

Burgers/dogs
Chicken
BBQ
Panini's

What else will be cooking around the lake?

When I saw the title, I thought about the butt since I'm an egghead as well, but only at home. I tried to buy the egg from the former owner of the lake house, but it was a no go. Until I replenish my "egg nest" and can buy another egg for the lake, I have to use the "bad word grill" (gas).

I'm trying to find a used one or find a deal and have it permanently installed at the lake - they are not easily transportable, so the one I have stays at home.

We'll have ribs and chicken (cooked on the bad word grill, but with a smoke box) along with some fine cabernet I'll probably cook my butt on the dock or boat riding, not on the grill.

If I smell lump charcoal burning, I'll know you live nearby.

Menu calls for slow smoked ribs, sausage, chicken and beer. Well, maybe I won't smoke the beer.

LakeLivin...I don't have an egg at the lake house either :-( . I cook mine a day or two before we leave for the lake, pull it, and put into aluminum tins and cover it up. Works great! That way you have the best of both worlds while at the lake, Boston butt and no cooking time.

What area of the lake are you?

Have an idea come pick me up and then we can make the rounds, bring Steven as the DD:

We will start with:

DSNR and Jim Dandy
then to
Swimmer and lake4livin
then head over to
OT
Big Foot
Summer Lover
then down to
Rude Evine
Dirt Diva
Pikeski
then over to the Rock for a quick jump in the lake for Geno
then over to
PP's
jlazc
tallahound
then end at Webmasters so he can drive us home.

By the time we get through we will be drunk and so full of food we will just have to stay at Webmasters I guess. Plus I bet we can get gas donations so we will leave these folks houses and quit drinking their beer and eating their food.

LOL !!!!!

Sunday will be the big cookin day. Family and friends for babybacks, mason jar chicken and conecuh sausage. Ribs and chicken take about 6 - 7 hours, sausage is the appetizer to serve with the bloody marys. Smoker is the same one I pull in to AU for tailgatin. Sauce is a carolina base (vinegar and lemon juice) nothing needs to be added when finished.

I don't have an egg yet, but am thinking it would be great for pizza and for baking bread. Do you use a pizza stone inside the egg?

At our house, we'll be doing ribs using my secret recipe. Hopefully I can get DH to make his potato salad.

LOL, I remember last year when I was making the final drive down to our Lake Martin house (now home). I kept seeing signs for "butts". I knew what it was, but it was pretty amusing to a road weary driver to keep seeing signs for butts.

that sounds like a plan! we'll be grilling (sorry..don't have the green egg ...but we do have charcoal) shrimp, chicken, and conecuh! ...you might want to rethink the webmaster...he'll probably be in Sandy Creek with B! he'd still be a good sober driver for ya!

Maverick we are planning an "up the river trip" on Saturday....if the weather is good...wakeboarding back in there when the water is up on a holiday weekend is the best...smooth as glass!

We have several racks of baby back ribs to cook. Probably will have burgers and chicken on the other nights. I'm still an old fashioned Weber kettle grill guy, but I've used the egg and it's a nice product.

I hope everybody has a great weekend. I arrived at the lake earlier today, and I'm ready for the R&R. If anybody is over our way, stop is and say hello!

I'm a long time "butt" cooker. I do them on my Green Egg first then, transfer them to my Charcoal Weber to get a good crust. Would love to have your recipe. Gas cookers need not apply.

BF, I was probably the most scepticle person ever in regards to the egg. I went to the Atlanta "Eggtoberfest" with my wife to see it in action and try all the different foods cooked on over 200 eggs. Bought one right then and there, and never looked back. I was and still am copletely convinced!

This komodo cooker is the most flexible cooker you will ever purchase. One set of charcoal can last up to 30 hours (depending on temp). I know a guy that came to our house one night for a get together. He looked at my egg and said "yep, looks just like mine". I asked how long he had his and he said 25 years. They last forever and can slow cook like no ones business. Also, you can bring the temp up to 800+ degrees for steak (no gas grill can even approach these kind of temps).

You can cook anything on them including meats, cookies, cakes, pizza's, stir fry, mexican, etc. on them.

Also, they are way cheaper than all of these $1200-$2,000 stainless steel gas grills out there now.

Can you tell I like it?

I just bought a large egg at Satterfields two days ago. So far, I've cooked some great chickens, and am planning on cooking 2 nine pound butts Sunday night for Memorial Day. I'd love to get your recipe to try. Thanks.
