has anyone else become a victim of these elusive jug thiefs? the past 3 times ive set some jugs out i come back missing 1 or 2. if you happen to be a thief and your reading this imma knock some teeth out if i find you

yep i doubt a catfish can take big laundry jug underwater and ive searched around the area incase the weight broke off and the cat took it but unless someone spots an orange laundry jug swimming around in the lake im sure its a human

I sometimes miss a couple of floates but i figure fish or the wind took them.The main question is are you catching anything or you just sitting around drinking beer?Where are you fishing also.Tyler

i usually leave them over night and keep them anchored down with bricks at the bottom. it could possibly be some strong catfish to break 30lb line and carry the jugs out of my sight, but i wanna know if its a common thing on the lake for people to have their jugs taken or do i just have strong catfish near me / mean neighbors

I really have to wonder who would want a bleach jug and a brick. ??? If it is a human, then they are not doing it because they see it as litter or a hazard of some sort. What part of the Lake are you having the problem?

Teach me something guys. I have never anchored my jugs, I just let them float. However, I'm not a big jug fisher, but I do enjoy it sometimes. Is it better to anchor?

I think I must do it the same way Hadenuff does it since all I use is a lead weight near the hook. I have heard of using bricks to help weight down trot lines.
I made up a bunch of pvc pipes about 18 inches long with caps on both ends. They roll up nicely and go in a plastic tub. The pvc piping serves as the jug and is easier to work with. I spray some with orange forescent paint and some with yellow. This way I can use two baits and determine what the cats like best.

Try small noodles about 12-18 inches long. They work great also.

Feb- im across from harbor pointe, what do you use for bait?( i use chicken liver and pink worms)
Hadenuff- my basic set-up is a jug/noodle to mark about 30-36 ft of line 2 hooks 1 about 2 ft below the surface and one about 3ft from the anchor the bricks seem to keep the jug from drifting i had a few cases where a big cat would rip the jug away from the brick and it ended up about 10ft away (hence why i doubt the cats are the thiefs). the only bad thing about anchoring is sometimes the line gets tangled if the cat fights alot has enough slack to move the jug around and finding the right depth gets a little tricky but then again i set mine out on a jet-ski

I see you are kind of string lining with two hooks on each line and a brick at the bottom. I have not trried this technique. I did find that cord was not good with the clear water, and I went with monofilament line. I have not fished it in a couple of years, but I would like to soon. I usually use pink worms and either cut bait or frozen shrimp. I think pink worms are the best of all the worm baits for anything on Martin. Cut bait seems to result in more turtles.

I read on the listed site below that turtles can dive to two meters. So, if you wet to say, 15 feet deep would turtles still get caught?

Good question PP, I thing most of my past fishing has been about 10 to 15 feet. I have caught some really huge snapping turtles about this deep.
I have tried turtle soup but not a real fan.
I have a friend who likes to dive and maybe coming next summer. You thing you could possibly show her the ropes? I would apprecate it. I can put you in contact with her. Thanks.

i used cord in the past didnt work as well as 30lb clear big game which wal-mart at auburn carries along with a bunch of other handy jug fishing thing like noodles, baits chum etc

We are always willing to take people diving with us. And for rides as well. Some weekend soon we will have to meet up and go for a cruise...
