I'm looking at the Russell Lands website and see the Russell Forest Trail System. It says there are 80 miles of equestrian, hiking and biking trails. I'm interest in the biking (mountain) part of those trails. Does anyone have any experience riding on those trails?

The map looks interesting as you can go anywhere from Willow Point to Catherine's in the Crossroads area. Of course, from the Dadeville/Jacksons Gap area looks like a trip up 280 then "backtrack" down 63.

Does anyone know a way to that part of 63 without backtracking -maybe through Dadeville would that be longer longer?

Depending where you are. You can come down 49 south to Walnut Hill, then come acroos 50 / 229 till you get to 63. From Walnut Hill to Catherines is approx 20 miles.

Just remember that almost all of those trails are horse-friendly, and that horses are indiscriminate about when and where they... "go." It's hard to avoid when walking, so I would think that it's even harder to miss when you're on a bike. But a good hose and a commercial washing machine should be able to handle most anything.

I was able to ride a short section of the trail this weekend. I started at the Willow Point Cutoff. My mountain bike worked fine, but my wife's hybrid was not the bike for that secion of trail. It was not the smooth red dirt trail shown on the map or the brochure at the trail head. I prefer the mountain bike part - it 's an old logging/fire road (double track) and has some nice uphills and downhills. It even has a stream crossing. As said in a post on this thread above, you do have to dodge some horse evidence, but that challenges your bicycle handling skills.

I will go again and ride the entire route.
