Does anyone else see the irony of the White House launching "Made in America" week to promote domestic products despite the fact that most of Trump-branded products are made overseas (and 100% of Ivanka's fashion are NOT made in America).

the man has been in office what 6 months ? and all that time he has been battling criticism from Krauts & the media--give me a break !!!; how long has your Congressperson been in office & what have they accomplished beside drawing a salary, expense account, travel abroad etc etc etc

Not that I understand why you asked the question, but one has been in office since 2011 and the other less than 7 months.  But what I find so interesting about your comment is the deflection.  It happens SO often when there is any criticism of Trump.  Have you noticed that there is sendom a reply to the criticism without either the words "Hillary" or "Obama" coming up?  There is rarely a staight answer to the actual posting.  Please notice this.  I'd like to read some defense of Trump....not negative comments about anyone or everyone else.

And yet another deflection (using both words 'Hillary' and 'Obama').  Have you no answer to the original post?

Private businesses are established and operated to make a profit...as much profit as legally allowed.  When it becomes possible to make more profit by manufacturing in the USA, it will happen.  Many business decisions have a common influencing factor, government regulation.   President Trump is attempting to make it more favorable (profitable) to manufacture here by eliminating as much regs as possible.  But alas, these are elementary facts and most likely not what you want to hear.

Subject:   Who killed textile industry in the USA?

A Little history lesson for the educationally challenged. First union's killed off a bunch of the industry but the nail in the coffin was NAFTA. Now that is a fact whether you choose to recognize it or not. Now who gave us NAFTA? Close your eyes Casey cuz you don't want to see this. It was the former Democratic hero, Bill Clinton. I say former hero because obammy knocked him off that pedestal.

I often wonder why, now that we have 15-20 million illegal Latinos why they can't bring the plants back and staff them with low paid foreigners. I jest of course. Those of us with connected brain cells know the answer..and if burger flippers and order takers are worth $15/hr, how much is someone with a skill like sewing worth? Is it $20,$30, hell why not make it $50. It makes as much sense as the ridiculous "living wage" of $15. Here's another lesson for you. The Dems don't give a crap if you make $15 or $50. The "living wage" is BS. There is one reason Dems are pushing this BS. That reason is unions. You see unions don't set wages at $xx per hour. Their contracts are all tied the the minimum wage. Unskilled workers like you find in the SEIU may have a contract that sets their wages 1.5 x the prevailing minimum wage but skilled workers like electricians, plumbers, iron workers, etc. May have a contract that requires 2.5 x minimum wage. Now hopefully you have enough education and/or intelligence to understand how that formula works. I repeat this here and anywhere else I can to try to let folks know what it is really about. It's about the unions and only the unions. They could care less about these idiotic SJW folks want need. They know that very few of them actually vote, but they are easily manipulated into doing the dirty work of dem politicians.

Now before you look into it and come back with how wrong I was about the multiplier, I made those numbers up because I don't have the time nor inclination to look it up for you. The real factor is probably more like 3 to 4 times minimum wage. I dare you prove me wrong tablet how they set the rates. Come on, you can do it! But when you learn the truth come back here and let everybody know.

Clinton signed it but the Right supported it. More Republicans voted for it than Democrats in both the House and the Senate. NAFTA is like Obamacare....there are winners and losers. No one seems to complain when they can buy a car or a TV cheaper because of NAFTA.

After much consideration and emotional discussion, the House of Representatives passed the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act on November 17, 1993, 234–200. The agreement's supporters included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats. The bill passed the Senate on November 20, 1993, 61–38.[15] Senate supporters were 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats.

You opened your mouth once too much. Guess you really don't care about Buying America or you would be familiar with the list that Casey posted. Those of us who REALLY believe in Buy America use the list all the time.  Deplorables are all talk blah blah blah. Buy America except when I can buy China or Mexico and save some money.

Most manufacturing jobs were eliminated --self-desctructed by their UNIONS who demanded more & more $$$; do you think a grade school auto worker in Detroit should really be making $52.00 hourly + benefits ? ytthey killed their jobs on their own ( in my opinion )

Go back and read Casey's post.  It's about the Trump's not buying all US made goods.....not me......GOT IT?  Let's see you try to live in the US today and use only US made goods, food, etc.  The politicians and unions have made that impossible.  Trump is trying to help bring manufacturing back....understand.   GET YOUR HEAD OUT'

While I agree that it would be good for them to walk the talk when it comes to making products in America, the apparel industry is one where there is almost no manufacturing base in the states any more.  Companies like these are really design, advertising and distribution entities and they outsource the manufacturing.  No different for major apparel companies like Nike, Under Armour, etc.  There is simply no capacity in the states and none of these apparely firms have the expertise or capital structure to build their own manufacturing base. The economics of their industry would not remotely work if they tried to build a manufacturing base in the U.S.  That same economic relaity applies to other industries as well.  And unfortunately probably the only way to compete would likely involve robotics which does not create the jobs we need.  There are lots of other industries where I do think we can compete and that is where we need to focus public policy with respect to corporate tax rates, right to work laws, affordable health insurance, reduced regulatory burden, etc.  To the extent the U.S. cannot resolve these impediments we will be hard pressed to compete economically.  That is the sad truth about manufacturing jobs in this country.

How do you know that those who REALLY believe in Buy America use the list "all" the time? What do you do when something you want is not on the list? Do you expect us to believe that you pay "big" bucks for something that's on the list when you can get a comparable item that is sometimes half the price? As Wix said, President Trump is trying to eliminate regulations and change laws that will bring companies back to America. Hypothetical, if you hire someone to cut your grass and you have a choice between an American Company that charges $50.00 and a Mexican Company that charges $30.00, which one are you going to hire? If there were not illegal Mexicans here to cut the price, you would pay $50.00 or you would have to cut the grass yourself.

American apparel manufacture died when people decided they preferred cheap, foreign goods, as opporsed to quality, American made goods.  Let's face it, most of us don't keep our clothes a long time and don't expect them to last.

Now, what shocked me was when the whole of the furniture industry moved off shore.  There are only a couple of them that are still making their furniture here, and it is high quality and pricey.  But most people would rather go to IKEA, Rooms to Go, or Ashley and buy foreign made at a cheaper price.  Again, people don't buy furniture to last anymore.

I think Unions served a very important part of the manufacturing industry at a point in time.  Before them, workers only made a pittance and had no one to protect them from owners whims and mistreatment.  But somewhere, they took a wrong turn and it instead of working with manufacturers in the employees interest, they got ridiculous in their demands for higher salaries and more benefits.  And they would shut down an industry if the manufactuers refused to meet their demands.  Additionally robotics took over on the manufacturing lines and they didn't need as many people - instead of the grade school educated worker, they needed scientist sna engineers to run the computers and the robots.

If we stopped demanding cheap, forgeign made goods, then perhaps manufacturing could gain a toehold again.  But until workers are willing to work for a reasonable wage and average benefits, manufacturing will not be back to the US.  And I have to say that I'm skeptical of anything that Trump can do, is goign to make a radical difference.

Hey Wizard...READ IT It is NOT about what Trump buys rather what Trump and Ivanka SELL under their name.

Does anyone else see the irony of the White House launching "Made in America" week to promote domestic products despite the fact that most of Trump-branded products are made overseas (and 100% of Ivanka's fashion are NOT made in America).
