How is it that someone who went from school teacher to elected "public servant" has 3.5 million laying around in cash accounts to use to payoff an extortionist?  That is what the FBI should be investigating, not whether he was circumventing reporting requirements.  And Goofy et.al., I couldn't care less about the fact that he was apparently paying off some dude to keep them from blowing the whistle about sexual indiscretions from decades ago. After all, billary taught us its not really a scandal if its only about sex. Remember the 90's?

I have to agree with you about the money issue. As to the sex issue with Bill and former Gov NY Spitzer...at least the Left has sex with woman while the moralistic Right likes to molest young males.

GFY,  How is it you know so much about the sex life of those on the right?  Have you been peeping in windows?

It's no mystery to me.  The guy was speaker of the House and is now a high paid lobbyist.  Their clients pay them $1,000 per hour and up to get goodies fromt eh government.  And leftists wonder why we conservatives believe in limited federal government.  Corruption and cronysim are a bipartisan issue.  Wonder how Billary went from dead broke to being worth tens of millions, if not more?  I don't.  Pay Slick Willie $500K for some stupid, worthless speech and get whatever you want from the State Department.  Want some contract or favored tax status or whatever?  Hire the former Speaker of the House in his new lobbying job and bingo, you get what you want.  Only when we deny them the cash can this come under control.

Yea, I fully understand the game. It was a rhetorical question. So far we only know the amounts paid for some speaking fees and none of bubbas "consulting fees" paid through the recently "discovered" shell company. What would be interesting to chart would be drop of income should billary manage to loose the nomination. What will be truly disgusting is what Barry and Moochelle manage to rake in once they hit the has been circuit.

No doubt WOTUS and his nasty little wife will make millions on their Hate America World Speaking Tour.  Imagine though if he gets less than Slick Willie's $500K per worthless speech?  Can already hear the claims of racism from that one.  Hard to believe the Clinton Crime Family can out earn the Obama Crime Family that came from the Chicago political machine.....of course Hillary is originally from Chicago so that may make up for the good old boy from Hope.  Reminds me of a funny joke I heard a while ago.  Billary are at Hillary's high school reunion and she runs into an old boyfriend that is not terribly successful.  After the old boyfriend walks away, Slick Willie says, "I'll bet you're glad you married me instead of him, eh?  You'd be the wife of a loser."  She looks at Bubba and replies, "Not really, its just that he would be President of the United States instead of you".

My favorite was the $500K a university paid the pervert to speak at a fundraiser where they raised something like $60K.  As Dilbert said about the pointy-haired boss, "I admire your ability to be paid for what you do."

The real crime is that Hastert sexually molested a former student and had a pay hush money, so he could serve as an elected offical.  In my mind this puts him on par with Michael Jackson or any other pervert preying on kids.  No doubt what he was raking in kickbacks and other funds allowed him to pay that kind of hush money, since we can probably conclude that he wasn't a millionaire at the time of the offense.

There may be multiple crimes here and if Hastert engaged in sexual conduct with a student and that was a violation of the law and it is within the statute of limitations then he should fry.  If it is beyond the statute then shame on the victims for waiting so long.  But blackmail and extortion are also crimes and if the student or students blackmailed him they will likewise need an attorney.  It is ironic that Hastert may have run afoul of the very same law he helped pass.  Poetic justice if he is indeed convicted.  I have no love for the guy as he was a big government Republican.....not my kind of guy.

As for the money, he was earning over $1M per year as a lobbyist and apparently made a ton of money on real estate deals ala Harry Reid.  Since he has been out of office since 2007 he has probably made close to $8M as a lobbyist, not to mention whatever other deals he got involved in (ala Hillary's cattle futures) that people use to buy access and obtain the largesse of the federal government.  Hence my desire for a limited federal government.  The less they control, the less they put into the treasury at the point of a gun, the less need for hiring high priced lobbyists and setting these politicians up with sweetheart deals.  This kind of corruption and cronyism in a bipartisan problem and the only solution is limited federal government......I know, a pipe dream but I need to remain an optimist.

Just about every politician that gets kicked out of government either through elections or crimes, ends up either a lobbyist or a consultant or in a think tank.  They get paid big bucks for the access and for the insight they provide on how to proceed on a issue.  So I wouldn't lose much sleep over that.

But I have no use for anyone who would abuse children or animals.  I don't care about statue of limitations or whether someone is trying to extort more money from him  -- he is a cancer on society.

Lots of if's right now but it sure looks bad.  If all the speculation is true then I agree.  But it still bothers me that his accusers did not come forward and apparently blackmailed him for millions of dollars.  Blackmail to participate in the cover up of a crime is likewise reprehensible.
