An ex U.S. Marine has been in prison in Mexico since August. He was entering Mexico with an antique shotgun that was given to him by his grandfather. He had to register the firearm with U.S. Customs upon entering Mexico and was told that he also had to register it with the Mexican authorities. When attempting to do this he was placed in a Mexico prison. His parents were on Greta tonight where they provided information about their son and said that they had been contacted to wire a ransom of $1800.00 or their son would be killed. They pleaded for the President and any other authorities that could offer help to intervene. How can we send Navy Seals to rescue an American doctor being held hostage in Afghanistan and leave this young American in a Mexican prison since August? On an entirely different subject I just finished watchng Greta tonight where the Army had prepared a new "Field Manual" telling our soldiers to not insult the Taliban  and to not be an advocate for "women" in their culture. How much longer will it be before our soldiers are told they can carry a weapon but they can't have any ammunition for it. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

You need to follow current events a little closer.  Troops are already patrolling in some areas without live ammo.  Can't remember all the details, but it was headlines a while back.  It is also very common at our embassies and consulates around the world.

Inert weapons (unloaded) have been used for YEARS, this is not a new occurrence. I believe the guards at the Beirut Marine Barracks did not have them loaded. A friend who served in the Army in Iraq told me that the sentries were ordered to keep loaded magazines with them, but to keep an empty one in the weapon to keep dust out... He did say the the inspectors would check to make sure that the sentries had loaded magazines in their pouches, but it was "don't ask, don't tell" as long as there was a magazine in the weapon...

My Dad as an Alabama National Guardsman was ordered to "accompany" MLK from Selma to Montgomery in the 1960's. He was issued a weapon without ammo.
At that time, under those conditions,,,,, probably a good decision. However, nobody told him he could not bring his own shooter to the party, just in case. Different time; different society; home ground.

I am watching Greta tonight and there appears to be no change in his status. He was pictured in a pair of shorts with a chain around his ankle and chained to his bed. This is a total embarassment to our country and it appears no one cares. Why have we not heard anything from the President on this incident? He should have the experience of having a son in this situation and watch his country sit idly by. Why hasn't Senator McCain and others come to his aid? No family should have to live the with the fear they have been enduring since August.
