I noticed on an old Alabama Power company map that Goat Island used to be named Sheep Island. For you oldtimers, did there used to be sheep there?

As we were leaving Goat Island a few weeks ago...my 2 year old nephew said "ok..now lets go to cow island!" I'm still looking for it!

Went there with a friend in 1979...in a 13 foot Boston Whaler with an old 50 horse johnson. As we got ready to return to Long Beach the battery went dead....Thank the good Lord that the little piece of cord was still firmly nestled in the bonnet. One mighty pull and it fired off and we held our breath for 9 miles (or however far) until we got back to the boat ramp.

Sheep Island is still there, Long Beach and Yaupon Beach have merged and are now known as Oak Island. Unfortunately, the area has been discovered/

Thought cow island is where the chicks hung out that could not fill out a bikini right.

The 1970 map says Goat Island.

The 1960s map says Sheep Island.

The 1950s map says Andrews Island.

I'm really glad we got that cleared up!

So was Coley point named after your family?

Coley Point that is west of Kowaliga Bridge in Elmore Co. My best guess is that is a typo because all of the roads and other landmarks around there are CoLLey not Coley. Plus none of my people (to my knowledge) ever lived there. Tallapoosa County only.

Some relatives did live in the Coley Creek area north of the River Bridge in Alex City, and had a farm there before the Civil War, hence the name of the creek and the road.
