Sounds like the US has given permission to Israel to attack Iran... whenever you hear the government defending Israel's right as a "sovereign nation" and that we won't stand in their way, that's as good as a go ahead.
That should make all of you that wanted Obama to do more on the Iranian situation very happy.

No war make me happy ... I did see what you are talking about ... but I saw it as Obama just being spinless and not supporting an ally. Telling Isreal they can take whatever action they feel appropriate to defend themselves is an ODD statement. Isreal did not need our permission. What they needed to know is that we will back them and support them if necessary should Iran threaten one of our allies or the people of a peaceful capitalist democracy. But now that we are a scoialist nation, we may think differently.

While it is true that Israel can do whatever they want, the point is that the nature of our relationship with them is that when we don't want them to do something we let them know. It's complicated, but before they would do something major (other than when it involves Hamas), they would always ask for our views.

Don't understand how you can see this as spineless. It's a major statement.

I missed the news but I caught snippets. Was there more from the administration than just Biden's comments? If it is just Joe talking I will take it with a grain of salt until I hear more. As for being happy if it is true, something needs to be done about Iran's nuclear ambitions and it is apparent neither the U.S. nor Europe have the desire so Israel will probably need to go it alone. What Obama doesn't seem to get is we will be blamed anyway. What a crazy situation. What I find doubly ironic is the behind the scene's support of Arab nations. Most people don't get that Iranians are not Arabs and that their only commonality with Arab nations is religion.

Don't know. I wondered that myself. It's always possible that it was just "Biden-speak". One analyst this morning speculated that it is the Administration's way of sending out another warning to Iran. Thing about Israel -- they don't usually rattle the sabers just for effect. They don't fool around.

You are right. A lot of people forget that Iranians are Persians, not Arabs. When they are not being ruled by madmen, they are actually an ancient and very interesting culture.

And most Iranians love Americans. Very sad to see how warped they have become over this 12th Imam craziness. It is kind of funny to think that a number of Arab countries would love nothing more than to see Israel take action. They will denounce it in public to assuage to Muslim loonies in their own countries while high fiving behind closed doors. What a part of the world......if only they didn't have so much oil.

MM, I never know when reading your eloquent posts whether to believe them. Now, at least you have provided a frame of reference. "BELIEVE none of what you hear and ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE". Thanks and hope you had an enjoyable 4th.

MM: Half of something = half of something.

GF: Half of nothing is still nothing.

Our 4th was great. (seriously) Hope yours was as well.

I was in college when the hostages were taken in Iran back in the late 70's. First day of class, the professor walks in and writes his name on the board. He then writes "Persian". He addresses the class and says "I am Persian, and I have absolutely nothing to do with what is going on in Iran." Really good professor (the class was Economics).

GF: Leave it to you to twist an elegant saying to suit your warped view of the world! The 4th was actually great fun as I took a day off work and had four days broiling in the sun. Hope you had a nice one too.

Hound: Here's our answer and it is official, Biden is the most incompetent VP in 30 years. And you were worried about Palin being a heartbeat away from the Presidency. The joke in D.C. these days is that Gibbs (WH Spokesman) has notified all the government media outlets that they demand equal time to rebut anything Joe Biden says.

Asked by CNN whether Washington had given Israel a green light for such an attack, Obama answered: "Absolutely not."

Well, that answers that. Biden should know better. Maybe he's waging his own private war.

Although I disagree with almost everything Obama says, I think he is very intelligent. Biden however, is more along the lines of a talking squirrel with its tail caught in a trap and trying to con his way out - offering liquor and cigs to all who will listen....

LOL, LOL! I think he must be an extreme extrovert -- whatever pops into his head comes out his mouth. You know, I often think that members of Congress should not be allowed to make the jump into the WH. They are so used to rambling on and on in these hearings that they just assume no one is really listening to them.

You have to wonder what kind of political deal was struck that they ended up together. Their personalities are so different.

No political deal - just close your eyes and think Laurel and Hardy....

Biden was chosen as security for O. Nobody will asassinate O as long as Biden is set to step in the oval office.
