I was cruising the lake near Chimney Rock this weekend and drove into the large cove that has the Harbor Development and The Village Development. Across from the village some developer has destroyed every living thing on about 60 acres and 1000ft of shoreline. I am pretty sure this is the land that sold to an Atlanta developer at over 7million.

Does anybody have a clue as to what they are planning to build there. It looks like a freaking strip mine and almost made me vomit when I saw it...Not a tree, shrub, or anything left...nuclear bomb would be a good description. Why spend that much money to destroy something? Maybe is going to be Lake Martin International Airport....

It is called scrape and build. Allows the developer to get the maximum number of units on an area of property. As you indicated, it is disgusting.
The same is happening at other developments.

It does not seem to matter who the developer is. I built a house in the last three years in one of the older Russell developments. I had to mark every tree and submit detailed site plans and even plant screening to comply with the covenants of this area. All of this was done in the name of preserving the beauty of the lake and I had no problem with this. Then you see the main point lot on the main river channel in Phase 1 of The Ridge where every tree has been removed and the lot has been completely leveled to build another mega million mansion. I guess that the saying that "he who has the money, rules" is still the dominant theme even when the developer claims to be promoting "responsible" development of the lake.

There has been alot of talk over the years here about not becoming another "Lake Lanier". The fact is we have NO ZONING laws and this lake is the WILD WEST when it comes to development. The developers "rape" the land and only care about maximizing short term profits. I would like to know what they are planning to build on this latest "strip mine". I wonder if the idiot developer plans more condos...just what we need...at least it will bankrupt the idiot if he is too stupid not to realize more condos are NOT needed or wanted on this lake...

I would suggest that everone contact their State Legislators or Senators. I have done so but everyone need to keep Lake Martin from becoming and overcrowded Atlanta annex. Also contact your county officials. The sweaky wheel get the grease. Pass it alone.
