Acting Secretary of the Navy Modly flew 15,000 miles to deliver a pathetic speech to the crew of the USS Roosevelt. After referring to the removed Captain as "too naive or too stupid", he has now retracted the comment. Modly has all the credentials to be confirmed except common sense. Gee, he could have sent his speech via an email attachment to be played over the loudspeaker. Wonder what it cost for his 15,000 trip? I suspect his career as Sec of Navy is over.
From my "go to source for news".....Fox News
"President Trump on Monday said at a press conference that he might get involved in the public crisis playing out in the Navy after an aircraft carrier commander was ousted after raising the alarm about a coronavirus outbreak on the ship in a leaked letter.
Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly appeared to worsen the situation when he gave a surprise speech to sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt and called ousted Captain Brett Cozier "too naïve or too stupid" to be a commanding officer of a ship like this, Reuters reported.
Modly later issued an apology to the Navy and Crozier and said, "Let me be clear, I do not think Captain Brett Cozier is naive nor stupid. I think, and always believed him to be the opposite. We pick our carrier commanding officers with great care. Captain Crozier is smart and passionate."
Modly said he wanted to apologize for any "confusion this choice of words may have caused."
Trump told a press conference that he is good at "settling arguments." Trump said Cozier should have resisted sending the letter but he did not want to destroy "somebody for having a bad day," the report said."

Wait, you mean he flew 15,000 miles to do something stupid when he could have just gone to bed and gotten up the next day to do something stupid? Hillary could teach him a thing or two for sure. Then again, if she did the captain would already have committed suicide by shooting himself in the back of the head twice and then moving his body to some park.
I would point out that this guy is the acting secretary. Trump has said who he plans to appoint but he has been a bit distracted lately.....and before then of course we had a phony impeachment.

You seem to have a problem understanding basic English. When did I defend stupid? I merely pointed out that he could have taken a page out of the Hillary playbook and saved himself a long trip. What he said was indeed stupid and I doubt he will be the acting SecNavy for much longer because of it.

The biggest problem I see with this whole BS krap is the huge issue here is over a letter probably passed to NYT or Walli Post. The military issue here is someone in the chain of command sat on his butt and did nothing so the CPT bypassed him and made a stupid (by Navy standards) move and embarrassed his superiors. The biggest SWAMP on earth is the military, especially the upper levels. You can never get away with embarrassing your superiors....right or wrong....you just can’t survive.

Never said the Captain was correct sending his letter. I assume a quick call to his Superior should have resolved the issue. If not, he could always follow up with a letter. Or, maybe he did handle it through the chain of command and it was ignored.
He did dock in Vietnam and sailors left the ship. And, the Captain is hospitalized with the virus.
Now, reread my post and what do you think of Mobly traveling 15,000 miles to deliver his speech?

I doubt that is the only reason he was there. Most officials do multiple things when they visit a region - you are just hearing about one thing he did. Secondly, while I don't think he should have said what he did to such a wide audience, he is right about the Captain. There is a chain of command and the media is not part of that. The Navy, on the whole, is very conservative and ship's captains frequently get relieved for lesser offenses. They are held to an extremely high level of conduct. You wouldn't even be hearing about his being relieved if it wasn't involving COVID-19. He did a stupid thing and he is paying the consequence for his actions... Remembe, actions have consequences, even when you do it with the best of intent.

Funny how that works....now the media, which abused Trump over what the guy said will now pillory him for "forcing" the poor guy out.

According to one definition found using Google:
"Coined by American and Allied soldiers during the Viet Nam Conflict. Majors and Lt Colonels in the Army and Air Force are the equivillent of middle management. Often, the aquisition of supplies and orders for troop movements were originated by these officers. The insignia for each of these ranks is a small round Oak Leaf Cluster (Majors have a gold cluster, Lt Colonels have a silver custer). When an operation went wrong, it was often blamed on incompitent middle management giving stupid or contradictory orders. Hence, cluster (fork) "
