Somebody who knows more than I do help me understand this phenomena. The State Of Alabama wants $20 to E-File my state income taxes. Shelby County wants $29 to E-Pay my Property Taxes. Calls it a "Convenience Fee". The way I was raised, 2 or 3 postage stamps to mail a return beats the hell out of $20 bucks to E-File?? In my tiny mind, I would envision a tax "credit" for E-Filing, not a penalty.
What am I missing here?

Now you know why the post office is losing money. They want 90 cents to deliver your return and check. But, I bet you complain about the Post Office too. I don't understand why they charge to efile. It seems to me they save money from receiving all the paper forms. As to the property tax, I bet the money goes to a third party who handles it for the county which is an example of free enterprise. So, pay 90 cents and have those union dems handle your mail or $49 and be a sport.

If the unions weren't involved it would probably be a quarter.
