I read that our illustrious Sen. Shelby was one of three Republican Senators that voted for the 1.1 trillion spending bill. "Bringing home the pork" is still his favorite motto. Never vote what is best for the country but what is best for his state and district.

Sending out 11 press releases on how Alabama will benefit does in no way justify this vote. Just remember this the next time he comes up for election.

Let us remove ALL incumbents next time around. If they are in office now, they are responsible for what has happened in our(?) government.

One of the few editorials in the DECATUR DAILY that I agree with.

Shelby’s ideology just rhetoric

When U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa, votes against health care reform, he will cloak his vote in a conservative flag. Fiscal responsibility is essential, he will say, as he has said in so many previous votes against spending measures for the poor or the environment.

He voted against the tax rebate stimulus because it was fiscally irresponsible. The Cash for Clunkers program, he said, was sending taxpayer dollars into an “economic abyss.” Environmental regulations are too expensive, and cap-and-trade legislation would be an economic disaster.

Yet on Sunday, Shelby was one of three Republican senators who voted in favor of a $1.1 trillion spending bill.

The reason for the vote is no mystery. He was successful in loading it with earmarks for Alabama and, especially, for his hometown of Tuscaloosa. He is against increasing federal debt and expansive government — unless it provides him with Alabama votes or another Tuscaloosa building named in his honor.

In 2007, Shelby posed this question in a newsletter to constituents: “We must ask ourselves a difficult question: Should we continue to fund programs that are politically advantageous or should we make tough decisions to cut spending to decrease our ever-growing federal debt?”

He answered that question Sunday.

Does anyone know what comes after "trillion"? We're getting so good at throwing "trillions" of dollars around, I want to be prepared for whatever comes after "trillion".

To give Shelby credit, he did send off a blistering letter to some female Senator from Washington state that said that nothing is being made in Alabama. Huh? I guess she missed those Hyundai commercials amongst others. Yup, she was a democrat. I guess she'd never been to Alabama.

If the "***llion" succession is bi and tri, then I believe it would be quadrillion.

This comes after a trillion = 10^6

Billion = 10^9 (i.e. 10 to the ninth power) (for Americans; not Brits!)

Trillion = 10^12

Quadrillion = 10^15

Quintillion = 10^18

Sextillion = 10^21

Septillion = 10^24

Octillion = 10^27

Nonillion = 10^30

Decillion = 10^33

When you've counted that high, come back for some more.ter a trillion
