I visited Russell Lands today! Stopped and ate lunch at Cotton's BBQ. Good eatin', fast service. Kinda quite around the lake and at Cottons also. So, my first restaurant review. Cottons = 9+

Where is Cotton's. Always looking for good BBQ. Mustard based or ketchup based sauce?

Let's start a rumor that this means "I visited Russell Lands today!" that CAT HOUSE MARINE is negotiating for a lake location for Lake Martins Only Cat House! Or, may be it is not just a rumor!

Ditto to the establishment. I've tried for years to reproduce that sauce of his. IMHO, it is the best. 9+ from me too.

Russell is a large fleet account of mine for GM vehicle sales. That was the reason for the visit. Stopped by the Ridge also, and visited an old friend of mine. Cottons is on 63, about 5 minutes from Kowaliga.

Cottons is on Hwy 63 between Hwy 229 and Russell do-it. Sauce in most definately ketsup base.

it is not good BBQ. Cottons is about the best I have found in the area, and sadly it only rates about a 6.

You are too critical. Let me know when you want me to cook you BBQ. You'll throw rocks at all others.

Jlazc claims he makes the best BBQ. I will claim the best ribs. Cat says he is the best at making BBQ. I am not sure whether NC is beating Cat's butt with a hickory stick or cooking a pound of it with hickory.

I do think Cottons is probably the best commercial BBQ in the immediate area. There is always hope someone knows of a better place, and they just are not telling.

No you didn't post that! Truth is, after only 1/2 lb. of my butt, you grabbed a bucket and gathered rocks. Set off to trace your past and throw them at all other men in your life. I know, you felt deprived but there is only one CAT.

is good. It's in the old Belk's Shopping Center, across from Radney Funeral Home. I put it up there with Cotton's.

The Red Hill place is pretty good. The first time I went there the Q was mind blowingly good. The second time it was merely OK, I think I got some re-heated Q. So I am worried they are inconsistent, but I am admittedly a tough critic on BBQ. But the non-Q sandwiches and veggies and dessert are consistently good.

why there is no outstanding BBQ here. I haven't found a really good one in Auburn either. Sho nuff is not bad but I hate eating on styrofoam and using plastic utensils.

Once they put it in the frig until the next day it is ruined. It's hard to hide the frig taste especially with catsup.

The last time I ate at Sho Nuff, a cockroach was climbing the wall next to my table.

I was a witness, and it was a not just a roach but a huge roach. It was in the far back both to the right as you enter the place.

Supposedly if you see one roach, then there are thousands in the walls you do not see.

I think we have an exterminator on the Forum. I would love to hear his experienced response as opposed to my latrine lawyer opinion.

We almost liked Sho Nuff until this experience. Hound did not complain, but I always complained prior to the event at all the sauce they automatically dumped over the BBQ.

OK, there is someone on the Forum who is related to Mr. Nelson Head. Several of his family members (Sister and Brother I think) have places on the Lake.

Mr. Head is from B'Ham and has a great BBQ place in Woodbridge, VA.

This man is a former Marine Aviator and thus the tie to Woodbridge outside of the Quanitico Marine Base.

He knows how to make great BBQ. He even says - do not ruin my BBQ by adding sauce to it. He works hard and long hours with the smoker to insure the pork has a BBQ taste without the sauce. The way it is supposed to be done.

Lets hear from Mr. Head's family and get him back down here to show the ignorant how it is done.

Maybe just for a visit since his place is packed with waiting lines 7 days a week at both lunch and dinner. His place seats about 75 and he has a huge catering business on the side.

His BBQ is the best I have ever enjoyed. + many other Southern Family recipes. His Mother in particular.

Yes Cat, you can be critical when you have enjoyed the best. Like many say of your boat repair service.

Feb and I often joke about how the best BBQ is in VA. His ribs are exceptional too. All of the sides great too. The place is always packed. On Sunday they have a buffet and if you are not there shortly after they open, they'll be a wait. And he has a baker that bakes all their pies.

I catered a party for my office from there and people were just blown away with the food.

Just goes to show that people love good Southern cooking everywhere. Unfortunately, it's a two day drive from here.

Sounds Good. I will show off my new knee. The second catalog order for the right knee is due in on Jan. 5th at the Andrew's Sports Center at St. Vincent in B'Ham.

You best not back out again Cat. My phone number is in the book, or just email me for the number. The only bad day is Tuesday.

I will give you a ride in my new 2010 "Hot Rod Lincoln Navigator". I know you are a GM man, but Hound wants me to buy her a new red Vette for her B'Day.
