This is an amazing short video. The numbers are just astounding. Really food for thought about our world.

After watching this, I was really glad I was the age that I am and not just starting out. We know how fast the pace of information has become (because so many of us remember, mail, typewriters and carbon copies, when responses were expected in week or two, not an hour or two) just think what it will be when the grandkids of today are adults.

Are you old enough to remember the thermofax copiers that used this yellowish paper that barely transferred the image and ended up being so brittle and curly that it was essentially useless?  Or the fax machines that used rotating drums?  Or the acoustic coupler modems where you placed the telephone receiver into a cradle?  Or when one corresponded by mail....letters...hand written or typed...?

I am that old.  Guess I am just an old f@rt....who, on the other hand,  finds Google one of the finest information sources mankind ever invented.  Just have to be careful of the source, just like you have to be careful about the written word...

Cheers   :>)

Unfortunately I am. and I remember telephones on "party lines". I remember when libraries had card catalogs. Remember mimeograph machines -- when the paper came out cold and had that funky smell? I agree that Goggle is just amazing. How did we find out things before Google? I would never go back, but as I'm slowing down, the future is getting so fast.

Yep to all.  The local library was the fastest resource.  Encyclopedias were considered mostly up to date, and were passed around to those who couldn't afford a set.

I'm a dinosaur and still actually draw, but I'm a dying breed. I was amazed the first time I saw an architectural drawing produced digitally and how I didn't believe those who said that eventually almost all architectural and engineering drawings would in an electronic file to be printed at will. That was maybe 25 years ago and those predictions came to pass over 10 years ago. I agree that most of the cyber advancement is very good, but join Hound in expressing a little concern that the rate of change is accelerating so fast that ther is a real danger that it may soon overwhelm mankind's ability to understand and guide its development or to use it in positive ways.

Since you admit you were wrong 25 years ago ... what makes you think you are not wrong again this time.

Information and technology more productive and efficient and will continue to do so.  It also makes the world smaller ... we have a global economy and will continue to evolve.  The more the world economy evolves, the more likely we will have fewer differences.

That is why radicals (ie: Islam) that want to force their beliefs and ways on others needs to be stopped and resisted before it can not be reverse ... I see that as the only danger of the world continue to evolve through embracing technology.

Funny WW. You are all for science and technology as long as it is saying what you want to hear. When it tells us we have to wean ourselves from oil and use science and technology to develope alternatives you throw a hissy fit. Same for climate change, I'll bet you will still be denying it when Lake Martin has evaporated to a mud hole.

found anything to do with Islam in a post about technology. Next he'll find some way to blame it on Democrats or Obama... Anyway, I was thinking about how retirement age is being pushed out and people will be working to an older age... and as we age we slow down a bit and find it takes us longer to learn new things... So we'll have an older workforce trying to deal with faster and more advanced technology... How is that going to work? :<0

I feel for you ... life is short, give it a rest.

The flaw in your post is that science and technology is not telling us that we have to do anything of the kind.

I am all for alternative forms of energy.  We have had nuclear for decades and think it is a shame that liberals like you stooped the building of new plants.   We should have had the majority of electric from Nuclear by this point in time.

The problems with the current administration is that just because you say we need alternative sources, we need to support our base and not just keep importing more and more oil in hopes the new forms grow quickly.

We are an oil based economy, and it is dangerous, inflationary and a threat to national security to stop deep water drilling and not opening land to drill.

Or maybe he wants to keep exporting more and more US dollars ro muslim nations.

read the post and you will see ... it actually is very positive how technology makes the world smaller and closer ... the point was that Islam is a threat to that progress.

Look at what technology did in Egypt !!!!

But this was not intended to be a political post. It seems only you can't give it a rest. So who's angry?

That was not directed at you ... it was to Archie.

But I am not angry at all ... and stand that my post was very positive ... it is just that anytime someone say Islam or Muslim, a liberal gets all defensive.   It is a threat to our nation and way of life.  Face it.  Ignoring it will not make it go away or make it less real.

Funny Archie ... you admit that you did not believe technology will take over your business the way it has ... but now you are in denial about the political disaster we have.   But this time you are absolutely right that you are not wrong.

Funny!   You are an old man.

New technology has indeed taken over my INDUSTRY but it most assuredly has not taken over my business.

The biggest political desaster that faces this nation are the Tea Party nuts. Even the Republican leaders who love America and who's political instincts nudge them toward some reasonable compromise with the administration to do what is best for the country, are so petrified of the Tea Party and its undue influence on the national politics today, that they kow tow to this dangerous minority in a way that is almost treasonous.

Now I'm going by the Mosque to say that prayer for you WW, then its off to my office and the drawing board!

Gotta love how WW can always twist a line of thought, even one on "Technology", off on a completely different direction that better suits his "Neanderthal" anti-anybody who doesn't think exactly like "I do" rants!

"kow tow to this dangerous minority in a way that is almost treasonous.".

So then the Democrat-controlled Congress that passed a health care law that was wanted by a minority of Americans must have been treasonous as well?

I have learned you can not reason or talk logic to a closed minded liberal like Archie and Hound. The typical liberals response when you don't agree with them is to attack. They will never deal with facts or debate an issue. It is always my thinking is right and you are wrong ... and if you don't agree you are nuts or a wing nut, etc. It is so funny. Look at Archie be critical of the Tea Party movement ... this is based on people wanting to control their own lives without excessive government, taxation, spending, etc. Yet they are nuts in Archies mind for standing up for their freedom and rights and telling government we don't want you to control it for us. That is what the uprising in Egypt was all about ... interesting Archie and Hound were not saying what nuts they were and they should go home. Liberals speak with fork tongue.

I'm not a regular reader of the Rolling Stone, but they have quite an article about the Tea Party. While it's probably a bit overstated, I wonder if there aren't some things in it that are quite true. I found myself nodding a few times as I read it, because in some ways, the article confirmed a few things I thought about it. Even though I don't agree with the Tea Party on a lot of things, I do think it is good that they get out there are make their opinions known. So many sit back and criticize, but don't actually do anything. And other than a few isolated incidents, they've done it peacefully.
