Grew up through the 60's and early 70's. Tried to think of most every tv show I could and pick a favorite. Haven't watched much in the last 10 years, so am relatively unfamiliar with any recent candidates. Some old school guys that came to mind included Ben Cartwright, Mr. Brady, Archie, Fred Flinstone, Al Bundy, Jed Clampett, Rob Petrey, Tim Taylor, Dan Conner, Ward Cleaver, Steve Douglas, Gomez Adams, Ozzie Nelson, Herman Munster, Mr. Cunningham, Fred Sanford and a handful of others. I think my choice would be Andy Taylor. Kept his cool all the time, dealt with the quirky on a regular basis, always shined the light on the lesson for Opie. Y'all have any thoughts?

Toss up between Archie the epitome of the union man and Al Bundy the producer with the shoe store. Like you, I have no idea of any dads currently on TV.

Check out ace of spades hq, scroll down to overnight open thread. They have a great YouTube Al Bundy compilation embedded. Tried to scrape the youtube link and post here but can't get this iPad to cooperate.

Robert Young - Father Knows Best. Who else could you trust? He was a stronger person than Ozzie Nelson.

I'm a second vote for Andy Taylor. That character always reminded me of my real Dad. I never saw him lose his temper. I never heard him yell. I never heard him cuss. But when he had something to say it was usually important and we listened. When he told us to do something, we did it.
