For turning down the Kellyton Chicken Plant. He said the company is doing well and expecting to have 800 employees after they expand. He said its the best company to come to his city in a long time. I glad we have so many jobs around Alex City that we can turn down 800 jobs. I'm sure people love driving out of town to find work especially with the gas prices now.

Seems to me the chicken plant was bringing in 400 Mexicans + families to work in the chicken plant. Mayor turned it down because the school system couldn't handle the extra burden withour taxes which were not forthcoming. Don't think too many locals missed out on those jobs.

You are out of what little mind you ever had if you think that they were going to 'import' workers of ANY kind. There are enough folks here looking for work that would have been happy to work there. You are just opposed to ANYTHING that brings new industry to the area. The ethanol plant is another example. Do you think Pheonix City would be bragging about the chicken plant if they had 'imported' 400 workers of any type. For that matter show me one example ANYWHERE where someone buitl any kind of industrial plant, and had to 'import' the labor to work in it. One of the BIGGEST decesions when deciding on where to build any industry is available workforce.

And you are supposed to be a 'community leader'. What a joke.

Do you folks seriously think a company "imports" workers for a chicken plant?

Yes, Fester, sadly they do. But that was jsut an excuse that was used in order to keep out ANYTHING that may help the local economy. boob and osms only want locals around to cook their lunches and serve them to them. Anything that hlp the local economy has to be demogouged and kept away. They don't seem to understand that a rising tide raises all ships.

Were hired in Phenix City , they hired displaced textile workers first and the owner of the company couldn't be happier.

I'm not a local so I don't have a dog in this fight, but I wonder if Alex city might have also been concerned about what the impact on water quality would be from a chicken plant. Just a thought.

Do you really think in todays world with EPA regulations that stifle business that the water quality would have suffered. It makes a great argument to stir the pot of anxiety, but is a strawman at best.

Have ever been to Lake Lanier ? Coliform counts from chicken waste are pretty big issue. I'm sure biological waste in Lake Martin from a chicken plant would stir up the furry of most of the Lake lovin citizenry in the area. On this board furry is stirred up pretty easily from what I can see.
