We came upon a boat accident last night right after the fireworks. This was in the main water in front of the bama park area on the opposite side of the lake. There was a rather large pleasure boat approx. 26 ' or more turned upside down. There were already 2 other boats there to assist but no water patrol at that time. We asked if everyone was ok and was told yes. We asked how it happened and was told that the boat flipped with it was hit by another boat that fled the scene. One pontoon boat had a rope tied to the mostly sunk boat trying to pull it to shore. Does anyone know what happened or heard anything?

about what type of boat that caused the collision, or what side of the hit- and-run boat was damaged. please let us know so that we can be on the lookout for it. Must have been drunk or doped up to leave the scene--needs to be in jail.

I saw the Marine Police off loading 2 people @ Harbor Point, an Ambulance was on the scene @ 10:30
The people looked OK - they were walking

With that many boats out at night, and all leaving at the same time - its to be expected we will have a few accidents

I was just at the Union Boat Ramp, and talked to the gentleman that owned the wrecked boat. Blue Creek Marina was getting the boat flipped over and loaded it on a trailer. The man had to have some stitches inside his mouth and his wife was bruised up but ok. They were hit on the right rear and it looks like the boat that hit them hit with his right front. They found a couple of big chunks of the boat that hit them inside their boat. The pieces were dark maroon, orange with a little yellow. He said the guy that hit them once he saw they were out of the water he was worried about his $20,000 motor and left. (WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP).

My son's friend and family were on the pontoon that helped pull the sunk boat to safety after watching the accident. According to my son, it was a Fountain (or similar) that hit the other boat. The driver left the accident and said he needed to save his 20K motor....he did not leave contact information. The water patrol showed up fairly quick, but after the other boat left.

They need to hang this guy out to dry! I know this will fuel previous arguments about boat size, but my bet is that speed, alcohol, and low visibility were the cause. Lets concentrate on the real issues to help prevent this from happening again. If you see the offending boat, call the water patrol.

Boat that got rolled over was a chapparal 256 or 265 si cant exactly remember. Anyway, its a heavy boat had to be a hard lick. Dont know anything about other boat. The two people in the boat were my mother and father inlaw they are okay relatively speaking. they are a little in shock. If anyone has any information on the other boat please contact the proper authorities, it is by luck my 5 year old son was not in the boat they had called that morning and asked if they could take him to the lake to watch the fireworks, and he decided to stay home and play with his friend next door.please feep our family in your thoughts.

Do they know what direction the idiot headed when he fled the scene of the accident -- back up Blue Creek, etc.

Someone should be able to find this boat. This is why I don't fuss about the water patrol checking everyone at the rock. Thank God everyone is OK

My sons friend is currently out on the water and out of phone contact. They are fairly sure it was a Fountain. The offender spoke to his sister and gave a general area of where they were staying, but that could be a lie and I don't have the information yet. I'll post as soon as I get something.

i was on the other boat,i was not the driver but i was in the boat.i know for sure that we made sure everyone was ok and taken care of.we also left our contact info so that they could contact us the next day.after all this we ask the people that if it was ok that we needed to leave so we could limp back to the ramp and pull the boat before it sank.i think that we handeled this as well as we could at that time.this thread is getting out of control with hearsay and half truths.i am not real sure what or how this happened but i can tell ya that it was not a fountain, also speed and alcohol and drugs were also not involved on our part.hope this clears up some confusion and the people that need to talk to us know how to find us.

I would suggest emailing Gator with contact info for his in-laws (in case they were too shook up to comprehend) and contacting the water patrol as required by law after an accident.

The family that did the rescue did not think you/they handled it well, and I'm sure Gators family was in shock. The driver was obviously going too fast for the given conditions, or there would have been no accident.

HP HQ my wifes parents do not have any contact info so if you could email me with some @ mshoemaker74@wmconnect.com i would appreciate it. Nobody is throwing blame i dont know why you left a scene were a boat actually was sinking. you should have stayed at least at the nearest boat ramp which was a stones throw away.My father inlaw was unconscious in the water. Hopefully this was just an accident and it can be solved no hard feelings hp hq just want it solved.

I'm gonna call BS on your excuse/story.

1. If you were in the boat - you should know better than to leave people stranded in the lake with a capsized boat. Thankfully, there were others that would take care of your friends stupidity.
2. Instead of rushing to trailer the boat - pull the boat to the side and tie it off - the boat wouldn't have sunk.
3. Did you guys call the State Police and let them know about the issue after you saved the precious boat? I doubt it - because that would have required a responsible citizen.
4. Alcohol and speed were not involved - BS - did the other boat have their lights on?

Personally, I think you are lying about being in the boat and just trying to stir up some crap. If you were - then you and your friends are a bunch of low-lifes (to which the forum moderator should track your IP address and hand it over to the authorities).

You need to contact the Alabama Marine Police ASAP. The district office number is 1-800-432-7389. If there is no answer, leave a message.

Anyone with any information regarding this accident is encouraged to call the above number.

Let us know when you get the needed information. I have another possible lead and will contact you if it pans out.

It seems HP HQ is taking the severity of this rather lightly; he was obviously out of tune with the situation at the accident. We can only hope he will step up and do the right thing from this point forward.

I have not received any info from hp hq. however i have received information about his identity although it was not the same as in a previous post. Info has beeen passed on to the proper authorities.my father inlaw has been made aware just recently by the sheriffs department that they are following up on some leads they have received from anonymous people who just want to help.my father inlaw has seen his boat and from what he said they have the majority of the nose of the other boat from where it broke off in the driver side of the his boat.

they were hit right behind the driver seat. his wife was sitting in the far back seat and was thrown from the boat quite distance has the other continued over the top and sliding off the back. my father inlaw said they appeared to have prop marks on swim platform/ sundeck.the boat is now at blue creek marina as of this afternoon.

thanks for all your concern and i believe from the leads this will be solved.

Just be thankful all are alive. Its not the fact of the wreck that makes me mad cause it could be just that an accident and sometimes they just happen it his how it was handled by one party that was involved. please be responsible and help resolve this.

Please stay after these idiots and don't let the MPs, Sheriff, or anyone else let up until this is solved and people are punished. Honest people don't leave the scene of a boating accident. File charges. This cannot be allowed to happen without consequences.

I agree with Osms, everyone involved should have stayed around, this would have been the right thing to have done. I am very concerned, that this has happen, and needs to be addressed by all means. Human life is one thing, that stands alone above the rest. If this just sides by, then who knows, what will happen next. Just my 2 cents worth.
