I have been trying to get contractors to extend a retaining wall for over two years now. I have had at least 6 quotes and when I have agreed with the terms the people never return. What is it with people today? What ever happened to no job too big or too small? Maybe my job is just too small or that its residential and not commercial. All I know is that I still do not have a retaining wall and I am ready just to attempt a stair-stepped planked wall myself...

with a bulkhead and new dock/pier. Couldn't get anyone to even come give us a price. Finally redid the pier ourselves, but still need a bulkhead. And this year, it could have been built any time after June 15! If any of y'all know someone who would be interested (200' +/-, 250' if our neighbor wants to be included), please pass their name(s) along...

Don't feel like the lone Ranger. I can't get anyone to do anything. I wish in a way the market would cool off. But then there is deer season..... Small towns have jelly side up and jelly side...

thing is that every year, we lose a few more inches of shore line to the constant wave action from jet skis and other boats coming into our slough to practice wheelies and quick turns, etc. I will say the grandbaby loves the rocking motion she gets from those waves when she's sitting in the big inner tube, however. We've lost so much shore line that one of the corner markers was unearthed and lying on its side in the dry lakebed. The Power Company says we can backfill when we build the bulkhead (but will need the elusive survey to find the actual property line!), but by the time I find a contractor, there might not be enough dirt left to do it!

It isn't just a residential problem. We've been practically begging for quotes on some work around our condos and people just won't respond. If they do come see what we need they (1) may not ever get back with us or they put us off when we call them, or (2) they give a quote and say they have no idea when they can do the work.

Hard to understand the situation. Both my husband and I are self-employed and we feel we must return and respond to all requests to stay in business.

there you go again. Send your money into Bruce that spends his hard earned money funding this board - sometimes with little return - and you will find the reception much better. If you are not a paying advertiser then you are just making enemies.

A few days ago you were just a POOR, abused yacht owner accusing everyone else of being a millionaire land barron. What gives with this retaining wall issue? Yachts don't have landscaping problems.

I did say "if". If you are, then you won't have any problems here. I saw a new company name on the new list but have not seen you use it. All I saw was your email address that was not listed on the new company info.

I don't think being aggressive commercially on this board will get you much in the way of business anyway. That's really not the purpose of this site.

I'm going out on a limb here, but my bet is he has a house. Because he can afford a boat, I'm assuming he is not homeless.

WOW, I am a yacht owner :-) More like, the bank owns it and I rent it from them for half of the rest of my life (something like that). I still refer to it as a cruiser though...

The retaining wall is for my home in Prattville. Maybe thats why I can't get someone to work, its Prattville and a little of a drive?

I am not looking down on anyone, with or without. I had made the statement that in order to afford lake property one would have to have annual earnings in the top 5% nationally. Congratulations if you fall into this category. If not I am sure you still find personal happiness. I have no ill will towards anyone because they are more or less fortunate than myself. I have a loving family, and everything else aside, that alone has and will continue to bring me happiness. I sometimes "stir-the-pudding" on here if for any other reason just to stimulate discussion, and possilby obtain some personal insight and mental enrichment. I embrace freedom of speech and though sometimes I may may make snide remarks, I do acknowledge that I don't really know most of these people and all can be respected for their accomplishments, and if anything else their common love of the lake...

I just don't see the CAT being aggressive going after business in this context. More like being helpful. You can really tell by looking at the responses to his posts. Proof is in the "puddin"
