...was shot?

BIGFOOT got me thinking this would be a cool forum question.

Big - please post under here your answer again.

I was 10. After elementary school (off of Main Street). I had walked to my piano teacher's home (off of Main Street), had the lesson, then walked to my mother's high school classroom. It was there in the high school (off of Main Street), that I heard the news. My mother, a government teacher, was certainly shaken. After high school was over, my 2 neighbors (a middle schooler and a high schooler), mother, and I went to our church to pray. The Main Street churches opened their doors. Small town.

I was flying between Travis AFB and Castle AFB listening to music when they broke in with the news. We were put on alert. A tragic thing all because of JFK not honoring his commitment to the mafia.

One the parade field at Marion Institute when they lowered the flag to half mast.

Queenfish here - I was in a 10th grade math class in Berea, Ohio. Busses were called and school was excused early. I have never been on a bus which was as quiet as that one!

Kingfish here- I was in the Phillipines serving in the U.S. Air Force in the security service. At that very moment, I was working a night shift and was awakened to a full alert. I was told to get your gear and head for the flight line and that was now! Thank God we didn't have to leave at that time, but rest assured, it wasn't a comfortable situation.

I had just finished working in the chow hall of Mag Dorm for Friday lunch (Auburn U.) when news spread like wildfire that JFK was shot in Dallas. Up until then, I thought that college students were the most carefree bunch in the world.........things got very somber in a hurry that day.

I was running a blueline machine at Robert & Co. in Atlanta, was going around to the back of the machine to check on the prints, heard it on the radio. Now when MLK go shot, I was trying to get out of town, also at the funeral of MLK Atlanta was in a turmoil, especially if you were white.

I was in the presidential Honor Guard at the White House at the time. We immediately had to 'fall out' and start prepping for the State funeral. I was on the casket team, stood death watch in the Capital Rotunda, and marched the funeral march to Arlington.

Wow, Don, that was an incredible place to be--even if nothing major happened!
I was an engineer in the aerospace/defense business in Huntsville. Word spread throughout the organization immediately and all work stopped. People were listening to radios, watching TV, and some women were crying. Lots of emotion.

I hadn't even been thought about when JFK was assasinated. But I do remember the A&P grocery stores. They are about like Piggly Wiggly these days far and few between. I can remember taking our "pop" bottles to the A&P to get our refund money as children we all thought we were rich after that trip :)

in the parking lot giving out cash to the shoppers for the bottles.... and hopefully getting a nice tip for carrying them back into the store. Quarter tip in those days was real good!

I was in the 9th grade in Thomasville, Al. I was in the HS band and we were having a parade that day. We had the parade but I don't think we knew he had died.

I was in the 9th grade in Monroeville, AL, civics class. Played alot of golf with Mike Griffin and Mickey Megginson in high school. Do you know them?

Yes, I graduated with Mickey and last saw him at our 10 yr reunion. Mike was a couple of years older.

Went to college with Mike Griffin if we are speaking of the same man. (Troy State) He was a great golfer. We were close along with some other college roomates. I caddied for Mike on several tournaments he played in. He tried to convert me to golf but I kept hitting the ball where the snakes lived. If the same person, he had an older Brother that had been in the Marines and came to Troy after Mike. I think his name was Tom. Tom had a black belt and also a great guy.

Please tell me we are speaking of the same person, and you still have contact with him.

Feb,

Same person. Mike is now the golf coach at Auburn U. and has been there for at least 10 years now. I see him almost every year at AU basketball games. Still a great golfer, I'm sure.

That is wonderful to hear Corkman. Mike is one of the most likeable people I have ever known. Next time you see him just ask if he remembers Lamar Hickman. It has been well over 35 years now. It pleases me to hear he is doing what he enjoyed and was great at.

I'm glad Corkman had info about Mike. It's been decades since I've heard anything about him, good to hear that he is doing well.

and we can laugh at his mock scenario, then we can laugh here, too, Bigfoot.

The grassy knoll Seinfeld episode was AN hysterical classic.

And, yes, I think it's AN...I gotta look that up, too. Remember my faux pas with "A".
Dumb me.

Thanks for validating me, JAW. I am very familiar with the
"grassy knoll" episode and ALL other episodes having watched them
all more times than I am willing to admit. Yes, indeed, that was one magic luge (sp?)!

Big - I hate to admit how much I watch his reruns, too.

So much, I think my lips are mouthing the words to the best lines of every episode.

Sad life... but I am still laughing even though I have seen the episodes millions of times.
