Following up to this same subject posted July 15- Well, I got my new premium notice today. It's only a 23% increase over last years already too high premium. Many of you stated that you have never made a claim, well I have not either. So I was rewarded with this 23% increase. My homeowner policy alone is more than double the 1st house payment I ever had, principal interest and escrow.
With pending downgrading of Kowaliga Vol. Fire Department we will see even more premium increases.

Lots of folks show loyalty to insurance companies for one reason or another, but I learned after watching the mess after Katrina, that no insurance company exhibits any loyalty to its customers when the loss is big. I shop my policies every year and have changed twice since I moved to the lake. What could justify that kind of increase? They obviously don't think you'll change. I just got my renewal notification and mine is going up less than 5%. Shop, shop, shop.

Since you are claim free, I suggest you check the market to see if another policy is available with a lower premium. Keep in mind that some carriers may offer a lower rate but also less coverage. Check their rating and complaints to assure yourself they will pay their claims promptly and fairly. Good luck.

We recieved a letter from the Union Volunteer Fire & Rescue last week informing us the their ISO rating had been lowered to a "5" and that we should see a reduction in our homeowners insurance premium.

Paces Point achieved a 4 rating a couple of years ago and my insurance went down about 10% at renewal. Many thanks for those hard working folks. However, some insurance companies will not acknowledge individual fire departments' achievements and they "zone" rate by county, etc., which probably allows them to charge higher rates and ignore good FD's. Shop, shop, shop.

Your info. on KVFD is a little outdated but we still need help. In the early spring things were looking rather bleak but we've had several new volunteers step up to the plate this spring and summer (myself included). We still need more help, but there is a definate turn around. The accounting and leadership problems have all been rectfied and our community can be assured that their donations will be put to good use. You can count on complete tranparancy of how the funds are being used. If anyone is willing to help, send me an email and I'll hook you up with the right folks. Help can be given in many ways and there are things adults of all ages can do. If you can't give physical help, we need your donations. Money is needed right now to buy radios and protective gear for several new firefighters. Our fire engine at station one is 40 years old and a newer one is needed in the not so distant future. There are other areas where we are still lacking in equipment needed. Right now, we are on track to prevent any further degredation in our ISO rating but it's not a done deal by any means. It's possible we could even improve our ISO rating on our next inspection if we continue to get the support we need. There are those amongst us that think a 5 or better is possible within the next few years if the community stays involved. Anyone that lives in the KVFD district needs to get involved, because the difference between getting downgraded from a 7 and moving up to a 5 (or even better) will mean at the very least several hundred and likely thousands in savings on insurance.
