Last month during the Poker Run after picking my card up at River North, my Scarab quit running. Cathouse had witnerized it last year so I am certain it was their fault. Fortunately a friend was launching his boat there and brought me to my cabin. I finished the run in another boat and took my trailer to River North that afternoon to pickup my boat. The guys at River North were afraid to try to set it on the trailer so the mechanic looked at it. I told him I thought that the fuel pump went south due to improper winterization. I asked if he could fix it and he said yes but they were so far behind I did not really want to let it there as it could take six weeks. The service people were very helpful and towed me to a boat ramp and would not even take a $20 tip.
On Monday I disconnected the goesouta hose on the pump and nothing came out. I removed the pump and mashed the lever and it would work. I then discovered that the cam in the raw water pump that works the lever was rounded out.
At that point I called Cathouse. I got really pi$$ed because he was not there to take my call. DEDE gave me his cell number and I transposed the digits when I wrote it down so I did not get Cat and he made me even madder. When I figured out what I had done I dialed the correct number and got a message. While I was leaving a message Cat called me and interrupted my message leaving, thereby really pi$$ing me off.
Cat told me I had two choices, I could bring it to Cathouse and they would replace the raw water pump or I could install an electric fuel pump. I wanted to do the electric pump thing to save money so Cat told me to hook the red wire on the pump to the purple wire on the distributor and the black wire to ground..
I did everything that he told me to do. Then I turned the key and I could not hear the fuel pump running like Cat said it would. Now I am really pi$$ed. Finally I put the lanyard back on the kill switch and low and behold, the pump started working. I launched the boat and it ran great.
Now I spent three years in Georgia going to law school. I guess that qualifies me to be a Georgia Yankee. And being a Georgia Yankee I have the God given right to look down my nose at all of you Alabama rednecks, who never lived in Georgia.
AND BEING A GEORGIA YANKEE, I CAN TELL YOU THAT I WILL NEVER CALL CATHOUSE AGAIN TO GET FREE ADVICE ON FIXING MY BOAT. THAT MAN DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FIXING BOATS, HE DID NOT EVEN TELL ME YOU HAD TO HOOK THE LANYARD BACK IN TO MAKE THE PUMP WORK. I WILL FROM NOW ON ONLY CALL GEORGIA YANKEES OR BETTER YET TOW MY BOAT TO GEORGIA AND LET A YANKEE FIX IT FOR ME.

A while back, my ski boat wouldn't start. Well, in the previous months I'd talked to Cat for free advice (on the phone) but I'd never met him so I figured what the heck.....I decided I'd give him a call again. When I finally got him on the phone, he said my problem could be several things and invited me to bring the boat to his shop in the morning. I was really pi$$ed that he didn't volunteer to come over to my place that evening (It's only an hour drive, and he couldn't solve it on the phone), but I figured I wasn't a good ol' Prattvillle boy so I had to let it slide; besides that, I work out of Atlanta and still own property in GA (two more Cat strikes against me). So anyway, I get up the next morning and drive all the way to Prattville (with Tallisi riding shotgun), and when we arrive we find out that Cat went out to run an errand and we were forced to wait 15 minutes while Dee Dee tried to keep the family goose from biting my @ss. FINALLY, Cat shows up and commences to make me look stupid by methodically solving the problem that I couldn't solve myself. It took him awhile too!!... (longer than I thought it would) and some other guy kept calling and distracting us by wanting to know when Cat would get to his project. Anyway, after Cat got MY boat fixed (and kept Talisi and I there until almost noon) he had the audacity to give me a hat with his logo on it....does he actually think he can buy me off with a hat for not coming to my house the night before and for not being home when I arrived!?? And besides, that, does he think I'm a d@mn billboard for the Cat House? Enough already!! I've had enough!!

That Bass fellow is making us Ga yankees look bad............
|
I don't think Bass is a bad guy. I've never met him, but he was on our facebook page for awhile and recently pulled out... probably because of this? From my limited knowledge, he has a nice family and enjoys Lake Martin which can't be all bad. I poked fun at the situation, but I think what happened was a failure to properly communicate and the stars were lined up for both he and Steve to have bad days and/or schedule conflicts at the same time (more than once). Like some have eluded to, sometimes personalities and are just a bad mix for good business. I try to see the good in everyone (and I know from personal experience that Steve is a good dude) so I hope they get things worked out and can at least be friendly....even if they don't do business together.

Well said, and thank you. I really wanted to help, but things just did not work out. He was nice enough on the phone. And, sometimes things happen. I just did not expect the post as it was. Maybe I should stop offering free advice by phone???? But, so many times simple things can be solved in that manner. There is a communication problem between he and I for sure. I had every intention of helping, and had to resort to helping him by phone, at least for the moment. Also, I am glad they got to enjoy the weekend. Not many left this summer. I need to quit scheduling so many things in one day.
Respectfully,
CAT

Steve:
don't worry about it. A good deed and good effort rarely goes unpunished by someone. You have a lot to be thankful for, as do all of your friends for the service you provide for us.
