very close to Dadeville and pulls from the town , doesn't rely solely on lake weekenders. Also they have a fishy menu. People in this area (lake)want seafood and catfish. They are very reasonable, it doesn't cost a couple $90.00 to dine. They are very established and have learned to adjust. Its a down home very casual atmosphere. I like them too and I live on the opposite side of the lake, but I'de rather drive 25 minutes to Oscars than 5 minutes to Sinclairs and Springhouse.

I've eaten at Oskars a number of times and I'm at a loss to explain it's popularity, other than it is cheap. I'm not badmouthing it -- the food is okay for what it is. I know they have meat and two/three specials every day -- otherwise it is your basic fried food menu. The service, while friendly, is about average. But, every time I have been there, the place has been packed and it seems to draw a cross section of people. Whatever the formula, it works for the area.

Tallula, The reason it works is because it is a down to earth resturant. No frills, just a good place to eat. As ou have probably noticed it is usually full, summer or winter. It is a constant that you can depend on. It seems that the "New" lake residents seem to expect something different. This is not limited to eating. In the last few months I have read complaints like, People should not have outside lights, burn leaves, too much water, not enough water, and the grand daddy of all. Don't drive your boat in my cove as you might distrub me in my Tranquility. This brings me to the big question. If you dislike everything about the lake and what people do at the lake, why did you buy a place here?

There are plenty of "down to earth" restaurants around. My comment to you is yes, I would like something different sometimes -- which includes something other than fried food and a salad that isn't just iceberg lettuce, in a casual setting. I'm glad that there are restaurants that cater to people like you, but I would like a choice. I'm not saying that every restaurant has to be like that, but what is wrong with having a few that offer a choice?
And I think the comments you refer to reflect the mindset of a lot of us that live here. It's not a matter of not liking the lake -- it's not wanting to have to tolerate those that are inconsiderate. Just because it is rural or "traditional" doesn't mean we should have to tolerate inconsiderate. Running boats up and down the slough, burning that blows into someone else's windows -- those kinds of things are just inconsiderate.

..and while you are talking about "pet peeves" for people who live at the lake.. music from someone's house that is so loud you hear it all over the lake. Be considerate of others. I think that is what some people have forgotten...consideration of others.

Amen. I agree there seems to be a greater lack of consideration for others than it used to be. Fortunatley, there are still a lot of thoughful people out there who extend their consideration to friends and family as well as to strangers. I think it is still worth it to be that way and maybe the inconsiderate people will catch on someday.
Also, one thing that gets me is a general lack of graciousness from many people. Some people do not seem to know how to accept a kind gesture with a simple thank you. We'll just keep on trying.
