Hello Smith Lake Folk, First post. Have had a camp on the lake for 2 yrs. and will be building to retire from MS. gulf coast in a couple years. Hope to dodge the hurricanes till then. My question is: Are houseboats not permitted on Smith Lake? Don't recall seeing any and some neighbors have said they don't think they are allowed anymore. Is that the case? Any other boat restrictions? We are glad to be a part of the community and love this lake and area. Grew up in Decatur, AL. and have traveled all of the U.S. east coast with the Navy and gov. studying the oceans for my livelihood. I've seen many great places on the water, but only very few that could stack up to this area for it's beauty, cleanliness, and recreation value. This is a Fine place to be!
Best Regards to Everyone, SeaDogTim

No houseboat restrictions here.Just the usual no overboard discharge from your head/holding tank.Independent inspectors will inspect your head system to insure there can be no overboard discharge.Marinas on the lake are required by law to have a pumpout station. Many folks use Duskin Point Marina,I think they charge $5 to pumpout.

I had wondered this before, too. I thought perhaps a size limit existed... no? I've seen a few house boats docked but never any roaming the lake. All were probably 30' at most. I could be wrong. Reminds me of a pink house boat (at least I think it was) I saw recently, with what was probably BOAT HOUSE PAINTING on the side with a phone number. In the area of Wilson Bend. I thought it said house boat painting instead. Well, now I can't even be sure so it could have been either. Family members have talked about the idea of having a house boat but the point of having one would be to travel around the lake and stay someplace overnight or camping. Again, I only see them docked at a residence the times I am out boating so guess I miss them being used elsewhere. Well, my concept of a house boat might not be the same as other people's. :)
