Once again yesterday I found myself having issues with a yard machine, this time my mower.  I had gotten advice and guidance from a couple of trusted friends who both thought the problem was clogged jets in the carburator so I removed the bowl in an attempt to clean them with carb cleaner and thin wire to avoid a complete kit and rebuild.  In accordance with Murphy's Law I split the O ring.  I went to the parts counter Moore's Hardware in Dadeville pick up the needed parts and  Adam took one look at it and told me that clogged jets were NOT my problem, but a silly magnetic silonoid on the bottom of the bowl was.  He desrcibed the problems I had been having perfectly and told me how to affect a repair that would last.

This is not the first time I have had this experience, chasing one issue when the real problem is something else.  Or going in with a braken part and using his sage advice to really fix the real culprit.  For the record other than having spent enough there through the years to put his kids through college, I have no financial stake in the place and am looking for none from this endorsement.  What I do have is a great appreciation for having such knowledgable and helpful folks so close.

You are indeed fortunate to have someone who works in your local hardware store who can actually help you solve a problem. I on the other hand do not have a local hardware store. I have choices ranging from Lowe's, to Home Depot, to WallyWorld etc.. Where many employees cannot help themselves, much less a customer.

Steve Moore has saved us more than once over the years!  Good to know his son, Adam, is following in his footsteps.

Moore's Hardware is fantastic.  The owner has saved my rear end several times and always takes the time to explain things he thinks you need to know.  I know whatever I need, they probably have it.  BIG SHOUT OUT FOR ALL THEIR EMPLOYEES.

Please purchase some big ticket items from a store like this. Most of the time they only get the $3.00- $10.00 sale but spend 30 minutes informing or teaching someone how to repair or just how to do a project. If two sales take 60 minutes that equates to just $6.00 tp $20.00 per hourThey never seem to get to sell the saw, only the replacement blade, never the drill, on the bits etc. People think too many times only of Lowes and Depot. These small town hometown hardware stores are very helpful, personal service like you never get at "let's do it".

My $.02 worth.

Several years ago needed a new refrigerator so looked at Home Depot bought drove to lake one night for delivery the next day. Waited entire day many phone calls refrigerator never delivered no excuse apology or anything resembling customer service. Went to Moores they ordered exact refrigerator ( actually cheaper) delivered on a Saturday when convenient ( no charge for delivery) removed old refrigerator.

For or me lesson learned.

you could always drive to Dadeville......sounds like the trip might be worth it. I'm reading this string as I attempt to figure out why my Weed Eater Featherlight is not working correctly and just got done looking at carb kits. Maybe I need to make the trip to Dadeville.

We use steve and crew constantly,  and buy big ticket items all the time.  Saving 30 bucks ain't worth being able to call and say I need items and can't get there before you close, and they say no problem,  your stuff is hidden here and pay us later. Local and knowledgeable is where it's at folks, not corporate conglomerates saving you a dollar! !

Steve and his crew are the definition of customer service. I'm in there several times a month and I'm always treated well.

Thanks to all the guys at Moores Hardware.

Mike

I shop local… and I shop Moore’s! As written above, they are ALWAYS helpful. I don’t assume they won’t have something I need… because they usually do. I brought and OLD chainsaw with me when I moved to Alabama six years ago. Even thought Morre’s had not sold it to me… they were incredibly helpful when it needed work. That chainsaw went tango-uniform… I bought my new chainsaw from Moore’s.

I am thrilled to see the outpouring of support for Steve and the crew.  Maybe it will get him some customers or at least an increase in larger sales as was pointed out.  I have found him very competetive in the past, even checking prices elswhere at big box type stores and found I bought it cheaper right here at home.  Rooster was right on to give big ups to whole crew.  I by no means meant the others weren't just as helpful and knowledgable.  I think it was HP HQ that pointed his latest hires seem to be at the top of their game its just I find that Adam can really save your butt sometimes with the small engine stuff.  Also buying local keeps tax dollars at home to help support our local services and infrastructure and related jobs and families.

A good hardware store is the heart and soul of a town or even a neighborhood. Then a good building supply. Then a good meat and 3, ;-)

i learned the the big box lessons many years ago. Always buy where they service what they sell.

Steve Moore and his employees are great. They'll spend 15 minutes with you looking for a 10 cent item! Everyone should shop at Moore's whenever possible. Beside that, he and his wife are great neighbors on Sandy Creek!
