I've never heard of patching boat carpet, its always been a total repalcement as far as I know. You might need to contact one of the flooring companieis for an expert on patching carpet. I am interested to know how it turns out.

I am just cutting out a bad section and gluing newer carpet to last me this summer... 21 ft of marine carpet was only $159.00 delivered so cheap fix..

Cool. Go with the 80 mil vinyl for replacement. I did ours over the winter and it looks great. I was debating the extra $300 for the 80 mil upgrade until I ordered a sample of the 50mil and the 80 mil. Comparing them it was a no brainer for the 80 mill.
