What ever happened to the Publix that was going to be built in AC? Just a vicious rumor?

it didnt & probably wont happen just like the rumors of Longhorn Steaks, Applebys, other decent restaurants etc--BUT theres hope--we may see another fast food joint with fried apple pies on special--most cities would die to have a major corridor like 280

I would love to see a Publix built and some other restaurants - even chain restaurants. I guess that AC's stinky demographics just don't support their moving here. The city paid abouit $30K for a study that revealed that some of the franchises would be willing to come here, but they don't have any franchisees, i.e., people with enough money to open a franchise here. At best, we'll maybe get another Fast Food outlet, which we don't need.

One of my BIL's retired from Ecolab and spent a good portion of his career in the restraint/food service division and hence was in the kitchens of every major franchise resterauant there is at one time or another. Having seen them all there were very few he would eat at. But one of his absolute "no goes" was Ruby Tuesday. He says they were all nasty and he was in every one of them in the Atlanta metro area over and over again for years. He has been retired for a jumper of years now and before that spent the last decade or so in the commercial pool division so corporate culture could very well have changed and it was definitely the corporate culture that was to blame. One or two dirty locations could be blamed on local management but when they all are the same over such a large area it is bigger than local issue.
That is why I have been to the AC store exactly one time when I was overruled by a group. I didn't say anything so as not to ruin the others experience, but I just had the salad bar. Obviously much to the dismay of many of you I'm sure, I survived.

i absolutely refuse to eat at RT; i think all the food is frozen, then defrosted, & nuked in microwave

What are the alternatives? My art group eats out once a week, and we do try to frequent local businesses, but sometimes RT is the only answer. I would not say the food is great, but it is adequate. But the places you NEVER want to eat are the gas station offerings. They are always getting written up for mold, food at the wrong temperature, and infestations.

Speaking of Ecolab, when I was living in an apartment in Northern Virginia last year we had a fire alarm at about 4AM...nobody seemed to know why, but it just so happened that an Ecolab person in full protective gear was departing one of the ground floor restaurants at the same time. Not sure what he did, but the alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building. He just loaded up and left. BTW, those danmed apartment fire alarms ASSURE your going outside is less uncomfortable than staying inside...unless you are deaf. Then the flashing strobes take over...

The building that I worked at had a shrieking alarm - I really thought that the decibel level was a danger to people's hearing.... but as you say, it was a lot more comfortable being outside than in.
