We found a few snake holes at the side of our property and have seen several snakes.  Is there anyone or a company who can come in and take care of them?

One way to get rid of snakes is to shove a length of hose down a hole, pour about a tea spoon of gas down and blow. Snakes can't stand gas fumes. Then I recomend a .410.

Forry of all are you certain they are snake holes and not chipmunks, moles or even crayfish if they are at the waters edge. You may want to get rid of any of those either way although chipmunks are adorable and I can't see why anyone would want to get rid of them but to each his own. All that being said mother balls work wonders to get rid of pests, especially snakes.

I've heard the same as Lifer - moth balls, and they also get rid of rats (I've had rats chew the wiring of my car twice now).  But be careful what snakes you get rid of.  Some are beneficial and you might find yourself overrun with another kind of pest.  And this is coming from somoene who thinks the only good snake is a dead snake, but the rat snakes take care of rodents and they aren't poisonous.

You have some holes, and have probably seen some snakes, but you don't have any "snake holes;" no snake around here digs holes. If you have holes, you have chipmunks, voles, moles, yellowjackets, or something else.

As for getting rid of snakes: forget it. You're in Alabama. We have snakes. And more rural areas like the lake have even more snakes. Snakes want food and shelter, and if you have an abundance of snakes, it's because you have an abundance of food and/or shelter. And around here, there isn't much you can do about either one. You can keep the snakes away from your house if you elimnate their preferred foods (usually rodents) and get rid of log piles, brush piles, leaves, lumber, etc. that they can hide under, and keep any bushes next to the house trimmed, and the ground under the bushes raked. But that won't drive them away, it just moves them further from your house.

Someone always mentions moth balls, lime, or a commercial repellent, and the bottom line, unrefuted by anyone who knows about snakes, is this: none of that works at all. There is ZERO scientific proof or evidence otherwise. Save your money.

The vast majority of the snakes you'll see around here are harmless, and many are beneficial rodent-eaters. Yes, we DO have Cottonmouths, Copperheads, Timber Rattlesakes and Pygmy Rattlesnakes, but we have far more Midland Water Snakes, Plain-Bellied Water Snakes, Gray Rat Snakes, Corn Snakes, Garter Snakes, Hognose Snakes, and many, many others.
