For many years, we have had 3 or 4 Hummingbirds at my feeders at home and the lake home.  All of a sudden in the last 3 weeks, I have so many at home that we cannot count them accurately, but at least 30+.  I am using 6 cups of nectar a day and buying sugar and red coloring in bulk.  They must be Democrats and figured out I was the one running the free buffet. (OK, I know who this will generate comments from).

That was a low blow for Hummingbirds!

But, I'm a compassionate Republican.  I would never throw hummingbirds (or grannies) off the cliff.

Woodboat your not alone I'm filling feeder every day. Not only are there more they are getting fat. I think someone should see if it's climate change causing it. Mabey a migration from earthquakes and hurricains? Where is Al when you need him?

Funny, but it does happen every year - they fatten up before the fly further south.  They started up on Logan Martin about a month ago and are still swarming.  Probably the longest I have seen them stick around in these quantities.  Neighbor says when he sees them like this prep for colder then normal winter.

I started leaving the feeder out all summer a couple of years ago, and now have a bunch that stay for free feeds and raise families here.  Now all the yankee dimokrap EBT hummers are trying to crowd out my families!  Quart a day.....

We have a ton of hummers at our place too.  We can barely keep up with keeping the feeders filled.

BTW, no need to add red food coloring to your sugar water.

I haven't checked their political persuasion.

Phil I think your right about them sensing the chage in weather probably because of thr barametric pressure. Out here on Smith Lake the cardinals and hummingbirds let you know long before any storm comes by going into feeding frenzy.
