And some free time?

If you do, and you're willing to take my proposition, I bet in the future you'll be looking at those crappy developments as "responsible stewardship of our land."

Want to take me up on it, or would you prefer to just continue ranting and pouting? If you don't find what I've said is there, I'll leave the boards forever.

What do you say?

I do not have GPS coordinates for the cemetary, as I normally just drive right to it and park. I will get you those in the next few days, but for reference, it is one of the many, and one of the larger ones down Wicker Point Road. It is on Russell Lands property, but public access is not restricted in public cemetaries.

As for the landfills, the ones in question would obviously be on Russell Lands property. Judging by the emphasis in your statement that "you will not trespass," I assume you are not interested in those. One is within sight, and easy walking distance of the "new" trail system, and there is also one inside the gate at Willow Point. The one in Trillium (the largest one, which is the one I reference when I speak as if there is only one there, though there are more) is off a paved road, but an easy walk. Incidently, all of these dumpsites are easily seen in recent Google Earth aerial photos. The cemetary is not, as it is grown over and the headstones are not easily seen unless you are standing right there.

Out of curiosity, do you ever camp or relax on any of the islands around the lake, such as Sand Island near Willow Point, or Acapulco and Chimney Rock? There are a some interesting things on a few of those islands, and many people frequent them without ever even knowing what is there. If you are a "beach our boat for a while" kind of guy, I can give you some info about those as well.

Look for an email mid-week. I will not be able to get to Alex City until Wednesday at the earliest, but I will send you the coordinates to the cemetary then, along with coordinates to the dumpsites I have mentioned. Visit what you will, and ignore what you will. Ignoring them doesn't mean they aren't there, or that they aren't a problem which directly affects "our lake."

If owning a GPS makes one "an elitist," I must be the Queen of Arrogance. At last count, I own 5 :)

And don't ask me how many compasses I have either!

Ok...Catherine...lets suppose there are dump sites...obviously they are covered by dirt like a landfill...right? Now I doubt Willow Point or Trillium or the Ridge would allow this to happen now so these must be old. Likely full of building scraps, maybe some paint (unfortunate) but not Spent Unranium huh? I guess I am not that worried about it as long as new ones are not being created. Now don't get me wrong. If you are right, and if it can be proven, fine the hell out of them...make them pay...put somebody in Jail even...

I am just not sure this makes them forever Evil and I like the developments thay have done and the stewardship of thier developments...I also want the regulations on new developments...

Why not give your info to ADEM? Besides, if these dump sites are as Toxic as you think they are...you trying to kill me by sending me over there? :)

the wrong way, but how long have you been around here?

ADEM investigating Russell Lands?

I personally don't believe that would ever happen, my friend. Not for anything short of burying nuclear waste under the clubhouse at the Ridge, which I know they would never do. It would take a lot more than one little old lady complaining about a handful of dumpsites for ADEM to take that bold of a step against a company wielding the power of Russell Lands.

I will send you the info. What you choose to do with it is up to you. Should you choose to investigate for yourself, I encourage you to draw your own conclusions with total disregard for what I have opined. I believe paint is the least of the problems that would be found if those dumpsites were excavated. I doubt there is any uranium, but also doubt seriously that paint would be the biggest problem uncovered. I could be wrong. For that matter, what I am told are dumpsites might actually be something naturally occuring, something where even dirt dies.

I am told there is a complete late-model automobile in one of them, HEAVILY crushed, but very low mileage and only one owner! Might be true, and might just be an urban legend. But the story is often told, and is so funny, juvenile, and ridiculous, that I believe it could be the truth.
