it doesnt bother me in the least if some prices on goods made in China  increase if it prompts US compainies to manufacture & produce those same products here--there are lots of 'stuff' i can do without these days--I donrt think bread and water come from China

I wouldn't count on manufacturing coming back to the U.S. - I think they will find another third world country with cheap labor and cheap costs to set up manufacturing.  If the price of Chinese goods goes up, then people won't buy them, if they have other alternatives.

FF is delusional if he thinks manufacturing will be moving back to the US from China.  Hound is right that if it moves at all it will be to other lower wage Asian nations such as Bangladesh, Viet Nam, the Philippines and even India.  The problem for us is that a factory to make cell phones, computers, and all the other digital devices that American people and business have come to depend on cannot be put into operation overnight, and until they come online we will still have to buy from China and pay the Trump tarrif.  By the way, a poll of American Companies  with operations in China showed only 1/3d considering relocation and none were considering moving operations to the US.  Never put too much stock in Trump's statements....after all he said Dorian was threatening Alabama, was the only cat 5 hurricane he had ever heard of and Kim Yong Un is a great leader and good friend.

I suspect some will, but I agree that most of them will find another third world country where labor is cheap.

Actually the problem with producting those cell phones etc here in the US has more to do with the labor laws and child labor laws.  They moved it overseas to make it cheap through labor, same reason under Clinton and Nafta that most clothing moved to Mexico - the cost of the building the plant may be cheaper, but that is a one time cost - its the day to day costs that really drive the prices.
