How is it all the zoos are shut down but there are people running an unregulated petting zoo on Goat Island?  They are profiting off merchandise sales while exposing people during a pandemic.  How does Alabama Power and the state allow a petting zoo and a merchandise business run from public property that doesn’t have to follow any regulations that are required by all other zoos?

How many people have been documented to be "exposed" as a direct result from a visit to Goat Island? How concerned should the public be now that the CDC says that animals are highly unlikely to transmit to humans? How concerned should the public be now that the CDC says transmission through surfaces is highly unlikley? How concerned should the public be when it is proven that being outside is exponentially safer than being inside with infected folks?

I am in favor of opening everything and letting individuals decide where to go.  I would NOT visit goat island (which I have been told is private land, there are 2 islands currently for sale south of Paces's Point), I would NOT sit in a movie theature, I would NOT go to a stadium, but if other people want to foolishly go,  then let them.

It is owned by APCO I imagine but if not them some other private entity.  This is still America where freedom rings.  This crap is effectively over with.  Mass protests beginnig soon.  More civil disobedience is coming.  If that doesn't work, prepare for riots.

This is very misleading.  The CEO of the hospital in Montgomery that made the statement that they only had 1 ICU bed left has since clairified but the news has not picked up that story...  They split their ICU beds into different sections and only had 2 total ICU beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients.  The other ICU beds were didicated to Non Covid-19 patients.  They could rearrange the Non Covid beds to accept Covid patients but had not at that moment.  In fact, that hospital only had 2 ICU beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients.  When you state that there is only 1 ICU bed left for Covid patients it meant that the hospital only had 1 Covid-19 patient in ICU.  

FYI, I know more about Covid-19 than probably anyone on this board.  I contracted it and tested positive early March.  I was the one of the first or first to test positive in Alabama.  I also have multiple other friends test positive and all of us have completely recovered with no lasting issues/problesm.  I nor my other friends have had any major problems with the virus.  Slight fever, slight chest pains, tiredness, etc.  The absolute worst symptom was that loss of taste and smell for a good 3 weeks.  I like to eat and drink some whiskey on occasion and all of a sudden the whiskey tasted horrible and the food didn't have any taste.

Please stop being so afraid of something that has a VERY small chance of killing you and live your life.  We are doing FAR more harm to ourselves with fear and economic destruction that Covid will ever do.  I have friends that are nurses and doctors who have been laid off because there are no patients in hospitals anymore!

That's interesting that you had COVID.  I just found out a friend had it too - she said it was horrible and she had never felt so sick and had to be hospitalized.  Her immune system is not the best because of a prior bout with cancer and treatment. It varies so much from person to person and I was reading this morning that 35% of the people that have it are asymtomatic.  I don't fear it for myself as much as I fear giving it to someone with a compromised immune system who might need one of those ICU beds.  

I watched the Mayor of Montgomery's press conference the other day and I came away with the idea that ICU beds are in short supply, and that is why he was urging people to continue to social distance and wear a mask, and not congregate over the Memorial Day weekend.  It stands to reason that they would need other ICU beds that aren't designated for COVID patients and I don't guess that they can mix the COVID patients in with the other ICU patients.  I have been blessed not to have COVID, or any hospitalization, so I am not familiar with their set up.

The main reason I wouldn't go to Goat Island right now is because I don't want to come in contact with people that refuse to wear a mask, and somehow think this is "over", when in fact, Alabama is adding hundreds of new cases every day.  I don't worry so much for myself, but I couldn't stand the thought that I might be carrying it and giving it to someone with a compromised immune system, who could get deathly ill.

Covid does hit people differently than others.  Of my 6 friends that tested positive 2 had 0 symptoms and the others (me included) had minor symptoms.  These tests were done at different times and in different states so it is not a testing abnormality.  The weird thing is that non of our family members tested positive for it including wives.  I just don't understand if it so easily transferred then why would it not be transferred to a spouse???  My wife is very lucky because she has a severely diminished immune system and we did nothing to stop the spread at home because at the time I showed symptoms we were unaware of what I had.

You have no reason to think you have the virus why are you worriied about others getting it from you? 

Sunlight (UV) kills the virus in less than a minute of exposure so IF you had it on you when you left the house it is long dead before reaching Goat Island.  And unless you plan to exchange some bodily fluids with the other visitors there then you have ZERO chance of infecting anyone.  But even bodlly fluid exchange is not a guarentee that you would enfect someone.  SLowtimer spent the entire course of his infection in close contact with his wife, who is immuno-compromised and didn't infect her.  Now the CDC is claiming it doesn't live on surfaces like they originally claimed.  Come on Hound, use that 'education' you got and stop acting like its the end of the world.

That would be because 35% of the people carrying the disease are asymptomatic.  I could be carrying it and not know.  Goat Island is quite a haul from my house, so it's not like I go there a lot.  I guess I am wondering why you care if I am being careful and I think there is good reason to be careful.  You are making your own choices, just as I am.  I won't be belittled into changing my behavior.

Perhaps she was just lucky.  I was very sick in December with a lot of the COVID symptoms.  My husband never got sick.  I assumed it was the flu (despite getting the flu shot), but now I wonder.  We joked at the time that it was because he got the super flu shot.  But I have been wondering ever since.

Yes she was lucky but so were the other friends wives and many children.  All of them tested negative.  I really can't explain it other than the contagious period is WAY less than what the "experts" are telling us.  In my opinion (which should actually mean something considering I lived it) the affects of Covid-19 have been blown way out of proportion and the shut down has done more harm totto us than the disease.   I would rather have Covid-19 again 10 times over than the stomach bug I had last year that put me in the ER on a morphine drip.  

If you feel uncomfortable going places I can understand that and don't blame you.  At this point it should be completely about personal freedom and someone themselves should choose what they want to do and not any government.  Quite frankly I don't believe a word coming through the TV or internet news on this subject anymore.  Through it all I have found out that there are no experts in this disease and they have all been guessing and most have been wrong.  I wish I could wear a hat that just said "Already had it, I'm Immune".
