I have a 1994 90 h.p. Force on a pontoon that has been diagnosed with a "blown piston". Does anyone have a shop to recommend in the Lake Martin area? What is the approximate cost for repair? The boat is at one of the larger marina's, but instead of repairing the problem, they just want to sell me a new motor & throttle set up for $5,000 - $6,000, which is more than the boat is worth. Thanks for any help.

It will cost more to rebuild a Force than it is worth. You should look for a used motor, not a Force. Then sell yours on e-bay as-is

I have a complete Engine/cable assem set-up for your boat. How big is the "Toon boat". Engine is 2000 model Merc. V-6 200hp with 25 hours. Mint cond. If your "Toon Boat" is large enough, we'll put it on.

You will after the first time the WP pulls you over and checks you. It is one of the things they are trained to check. That old of toon boat is going to have smaller toons and I would bet not rated for that big a motor. That is not a cheap ticket either.

The plate does say 90hp is the max. Out of curiosity, is there a ballpark estimate for a repair. I mainly want the boat for my 23 year old to have available for him and his friends so I don't have to take em out in my new 24' Sea Ray cause they ain't gettin the keys to that. The toon has been kept lifted in a boat house since new, so it is still in excellant shape for its age. Thanks for the help.

down around st. pete that has a rebuild exchange for power heads.
i have bought pwc long blocks form them and you can get a 2 year warranty.

if you are not familiar with them I have the info in my office. they only sell to established legitimate businesses. I guess that means the cathouse.

If piston blown, no reason to rebuild the powerhead till you determine what caused the blown piston.

The most common causes of engine failure are detonation, pre-ignition, and overheating or any combination thereof. The result of these problems is that the temperature in the combustion chamber gets too high. As soon as the temperature in the chamber gets higher than normal the engine begins to run poorly and the damage to the engine begins. Detonation is usually caused by the air/fuel mixture being lean and the erosion of the piston starts at the edge or outer diameter of the piston. If the erosion starts in the center of the piston it is probably an ignition problem. An engine running hot due to deteriorated water pump or cooling system blockage compounds the problem.

So even if the powerhead is rebuilt if you do not correct the orignal issue which caused the failure then next thing you know you have another blown piston.

But Cat is the expert here not me and I am sure if he rebuilds the powerhead he will properly diagnose the orignal issue which caused the failure in the first place.

THERE IS NO WAY THIS MOTOR IS WORTH REPAIRING.

FORCE MOTORS ARE CRAPP FROM THE GET GO. Made with cheap off spec parts.

You must always rebuild the carbs, before you put them back and that alone will cost about 125/carb

this is like repairing a YUGO
