Is it possible the way Hillary continues to run her mouth that she has been given insider information on the investigation that we will not know anything about until tomorrow?

Indict someone for issues unrelated to the target of the investigation to get them to roll over in exchange for a lesser sentence. If Manafort and the others don't this will all be a huge favor to Trump and provide him with the vindication he claims he deserves. Sadly, if you are involved in financial crimes it might not be the best idea to attach yourself to a Republican.

What is the process by which Mueller had to follow to select a federal grand jury? What precludes those selected from being totally biased in any particular direction(anti-Democrat, pro-Democrat, anti-Republican, pro-Republican, etc.) This country is so divided now in a political way that I sure would not want to be on trial for any "reason".

I am not positive but as I understand it Grand Juries are not selected by a prosecutor but are sitting there waiting for prosecutors to make a case for indictment. They are convened by a court jurisdiction and will hear any case brought before them. Needless to say, a Grand Jury in DC or northern VA will likely lean liberal. But the fact is, as Tom Wolfe wrote in Bonfire of the Vanities, a grand jury could indict a ham sandwich. There is a very low bar for an indictment, basically all they need is probable cause that a crime has been committed.
An indictment of Manafort has long been in the works when they raided his home and probably indicates that their attempts to turn him were not successful. The one to worry about in this mess is not Manafort but Papadopolous, who plead guilty to lying to the FBI. That smells of him rolling over in exchange for a lesser sentence. They indicted Manafort to turn up the pressure on him. So they have gotten two short timers in the Trump campaign, one for perjury and the other for financial crimes unrelated to his short tenure with the Trump campaign. What Mueller can get from these two remains to be seen and it could end there depending on what they say.

If you look a the charges, Manafort and his bud charges mostly pertain to things that happened before he was even associated with the camp0aign. One thing I picked up on is that he was a paid lobbyist for a foreign government, without registering as such. He laundered the money he was paid.
I agree with MM that they will charge Manafort and then hope he will provide more information as part of a deal for reduced charges or a reduced sentence. It'll be interesting to see who is next. I think Flynn cut a deal, so he may be off the table. But I wonder about Jared Kushner.
Have to wonder who is next. I had a wild thought - supposed they name Trump and Pence - and then Paul Ryan gets to be President. Not that the Dems would love that, but there are others in Washington who would probably think that was a good deal. I'm not much on conspiracy theories, but under the guise of legal investigation - who knows?

Actually, you might be surpised how a Grand Jury might lean in Northern VA. While they may on the whole, lean liberal, the grand jury is likely to be made up of people working or supporting the government - and despite what you think, they might have a very conservative thought about these charges. A surprising majority of those (not political appointees and their ilk) have strong feelings about ethics and money laundering. The ones you hear about as violating ethics are in the minority. Although a lot of these charges are somewhat confusing and a bit complicated. And most people in government are convinced that lobbyists are all crooks, becasue they make too much money.

If they do indict Trump/Pence and pass the hat to Paul Ryan - they better have some damn convincing evidence for the American people or it may be the next Civil War.
But just think if they can indict Trump, Pence, Ryan, Hatch, all of Trump's cabinet and any pets he may have - Hillary will still not be President.

"and Hillary will still not be President" and we can all thank heaven for that. As sleazy as these guys are, Hillary is pure slime.
Watched the press conference today and thought that the Press Secretary did an excellent job. The press was so anxious to loop the President into this, and I have to give her credit - she absolutely refuses to speculate. She said that they expect the Mueller investigation to end pretty quickly - but did not give any reason why the WH believes this. I assume they have some kind of insight.
After reading a bit more about Poppuldoupous (is that his name?), I believe that he just may be a Washington hustler, looking to get his foot in the door. He was trying to set up meetings with the Russians and sending emails to the campaign, and in the end, ended up on some voluntary advisory counsel that, according to the WH, only met once. The press tried to say that because there was a picture of him in this meeting, that was proof of something. Press Secretary just laughed and mentioned that there are about a million pictures out there with Trump and various people. Although some fool on Fox News - Andrew Napolitano, claims that Manafort is just the tip of the iceberg and there will be more indictments every day, running up the chain of command to finally indict the President.
Now what is to happen to Comely for passing classified information to a civilian with no clearance, Hillary with all these emails, plus hiring a firm to create an unsubstantiated dossier on Trump, etc, I wonder if it all go off into the horizon. Be nice if everyone could simmer down and do some government - and Congress to do some legislating. But now we will be coming up on Thanksgiving and I'm sure there is another break......

Fox News ‘Source’: Manafort, Podesta Brothers Ties to Russia Focus of Mueller Investigation
Tuesday on Fox News Channel’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” host Tucker Carlson laid out details of what an unnamed source said of how former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort previously worked as a liaison between the Russians and the Podesta Group, a lobbying firm co-founded by John and Tony Podesta.
Manafort was working to advance “Russian government interests” in Washington, D.C. according to that source.
Carlson said the source scoffed at press accounts of the investigation conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in American politics, arguing it had little to do with the 2016 presidential election.
Last night on this show, we told you about how the Podesta group, a lobbying firm co-founded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign — and John Podesta and his brother Tony have been sucked into the independent counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of alleged Russian interference in American politics. Before last night’s show was even over, we got an email from a man with direct personal knowledge of that story.
The man, whose name we can’t reveal for the time being, is a former senior employee of the Podesta Group. He worked there for years. He said he was motivated to contact us by the disgust he felt watching media coverage of the Russia story. Not only were most reporters getting it wrong he said, they were getting it backward. The Russians were in fact deeply involved in American politics, but the real story had almost nothing to do with the 2016 presidential campaign.

I'm not sure I put much faith in Breitbart, but the truth is that Tony Podesta stepped down from his lobbying firm yesterday. He must think that something is in store for him. People just don't step away from the companies they started unless something is going down.
As for Podesta and Manafort having worked together in the past? I believe it. The lobbyists have their own hustle. In fact, every time that government ethics laws have been tightened up, they find a way around them (and Congress loves that they do). Truth - when ethics said lobbyists were no longer allowed to pay for dinner when they dined with Congressmen, they started having parties with those big Japanese/Chinese soup spoons, so that they could provide a meal (numerous spoons) without violating ethics. It's really wild. In the end, the American people get screwed.

Something I saw this morning indicated that Manafort hired Podesta Group and Mercury LLC to do their US lobbying.
