Subject:   Sense of Olympics Trip?
Date:   9/30/2009 12:24:02 PM

The more I watch this boondoggle on the Olympics the more I wonder about Obama's priorities and his decisions. A couple of interesting pieces of information are starting to come out:

1. Several members of the Obama administration from the Chicago machine and former cronies still in Chicago stand to benefit financially from the Olympics. More details will slowly work their way out over the coming weeks by everyone but the government media.

2. For some reason Michlle Obama had to go over on a separate jet from Obama. So we had to send a 757 with all the security because she couldn't travel with him. I find this inexcusable. If it was so important that she be there she could have traveled with him instead of costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars for her to travel on her own jet. Another fine example of the hypocrisy and elitism of the left as they tell us we need to drive unsafe cars and air dry our laundry.

3. We have Afghanistan coming apart, the GPD going negative again, foreclosures at record highs, unemployment going up and on and on and he is off to Copenhagen at great expense to the taxpayers to benefit cronies in Chicago.

Someone must have a video of the Community Organizer in Chief advising pimps on how to launder money or something similar for him to show such abysmally bad judgment. I await the Messiah's many apologists to try to convince us this was a good use of his time and our treasure. Good luck......

I could care less about the Olympics, but I guess that if Chicago got it, then it would bring a lot of money into the area, and create some jobs in construction and been a boon for the hospitality industry.

The President will be gone less than 5 hours. So I don't think the entire country will fall apart in that time. And since he has the most sophisticated communications that travels with him at all times, I don't think he'll miss anything.

Nice try Martini -- weak, but a nice try.

Has he figured out how to defy the laws of physics as well? DC to Copenhagen is a smidgin under 4,000 miles one way. The round trip alone is 8,000 miles - which means if he didn't do anything but fly over and back Air Force One would have to travel at a cool 1,600 miles per hour. Even the 747ER doesn't fly that fast.

I know what you meant about the five hours but like MM I question the sagacity of this trip -- and especially sending not one but two planes. I also wonder whether he would go if the candidate city were Topeka or Billings....hardly a chance of either ever being a candidate but you get my drift....

Personally, I think it is a BS trip and I wish he would stay home and take care of business. I assume he feels obligated to the people of Chicago or something.

One of my disappointments with Obama is that he can't seem to always seperate the wheat from the chaff. He seems to treat everything with equal importance. I can't decide if it is a generational thing or "his" thing.

to apologize for anything the Messiah says and does. My point is and continues to be that this is not the business of the President, especially given the current times we are in.

And besides, don't insult our intelligence about this only taking 5 hours. You know how many hours and dollars go into a meeting like this. All the hours of preparation, all the meetings, etc. I don't suppose you really believe he is going to show up without preparing, do you? I suppose he could just show up as the Teleprompter in Chief but I would assume he has spent a lot of time preparing for this, understanding the arguments for picking Chicago, negotiating his cut of the money all his cronies will make, etc.

And this from a guy who doesn't have time to meet with his commander in Afghanistan. I will bet you lake houses that if someone examines the logs about all the people from Chicago that visited the White House about this, all the conference calls, all the meetings will far exceed the amount of time the Messiah has spent meeting McCrystal. Better ask Feb before you take that bet.

Weak Hound, really weak.....but nice try.

I'm not apologizing for him. I said I think it is a BS trip.

But, I do think too much is being made about the McCrystal comment. I watched the entire interview, which I doubt many of you did.

Why do you assume that? Simply because we were struck by that one fact?

Making the statement that most of us didn't watch the entire interview. Where do you come up with these generalizations? Do you have ESP?

There is a chain of command, and the President's military advisor is the SecDef.

The SecDef is the one who is charged with gathering the military advice from his Commanders and formulating recommendations to the Pres. As such, the Pres could opt to totally rely on the SecDef for such advice.

On the other hand the Pres and SecDef could foster a team environment by bringing in the guys on the ground to discuss the various situations and options.

In my book the latter option would be better -- as a retired military officer I can tell you we value having input to a decision and also value carrying out the leader's decision -- even if, after due consideration, the leader did not choose what we recommended. I guess if Obama were more familiar with the military mentality he would understand that and have Gates, McChrystal and Petraeus all huddled together around a table figuring out the best military strategy.

Gotta get back to the boredom known as work....

-I'm not a big Obama fan, but I think we should cut him some slack on this trip.
-Other heads of state have done this before (ex: Tony Blair for London) and other heads of state are in Copenhagen now politicing for their cities. Why not our guy. In the future, ..or I guess now, this will probably become something to be expected.
-Will there be a lot of graft and corruption in Chicago? --of coourse! 1) because it's Chicago , and 2) because every olympics I remember has had some kind of payoff/kickback/etc scandal associated with it.
-I say give the guy a pass on this, and wait till he puts his foot back on Andrews' tarmac and start right back up on him. Besides, while he's gone for 24 hours, there's no telling how much trouble the czars and congressmen can get into. Could be fun to watch.

have said in the past -- that you don't watch CBS, NBC, ABC, etc. You both have made that very statement a number of times on this very forum. So why wouldn't I assume that you didn't watch the interview since it was on 60 Minutes on CBS.
And I'm still betting that the only thing you have seen is that one little clip.

You can't have it both ways.

And as I understand it, he has just done that. I don't think that he is ignoring the military -- but I keep hearing that American opinion is turning against the war in Afghanistan, and I think he also has to consider this. I don't think it would be fair to put additional troops into Afghanistan if the effort doesn't haven the support of the American people.

I have heard that the other option that they are considering is increasing the number of armed drones and other tactics focused on the mountains between Pakistan and Afghanistan where Al Quayda lurks rather than putting more boots on the ground in Afghanistan. I assume that the strategic planners are looking closely at the feasibility of this.

BTW, if you watched the interview with McCrystal, you know that he was not complaining about not talking to the President -- he was asked the question and he answered it. I think a lot of military people would rather he be focused on fighting the war than care and feeding of the WH.

Where I said I never watch the aforementioned channels. Don't watch them much but, don't recall saying I never watched them.
