So, we seem to all be in agreement that town hall meetings should be open to both sides, and that attendees shouldn't be intimidated. Correct?

And .....
CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Three Medford school teachers were threatened with arrest and thrown out of the President Bush rally at the Jackson County Fairgrounds Thursday night, after they showed up wearing T-shirts with the slogan "Protect our civil liberties."

the way I would do it. Hate to disappoint you but as I said in response to an earlier post by Hound, President's stack meetings all the time and I have no real objection to it. I never objected to the series of Obama townhalls that were clearly stacked in his favor.
I do object to congresspeople holding allegedly "open" townhalls to discuss a single issue like health care reform and then bringing in SEIU thugs to stack the hall, to intimidate people and beat up those with opposing viewpoints. Neither of the examples you provided meet that objectionable criteria, not even close.
If you don't want to have an open exchange of ideas and hear from your constituency just say so (as many Dems have). But don't claim you are having an open meeting to hear from them and then do what they did. Keep trying.......

Read my post below and you will see where this is different and look at my posts. Never said a word objecting to the President's stacked townhalls. I do find it ironic that this was never an issue for you when Code Pink was up to their mischief or the maggot-infested anarchists vandalized Seattle during the G8. I am consistent on this issue, are you?

Seem to me that the Tea Bagger thugs have outnumbered the SEIU thugs at most of these meetngs.

If meaning any public meeting should be free of any faction which through whatever means keeps the opposing faction from being heard then we are in agreement. While it seems to have improved in the past few days, in the days immediately after the Congressional break that was not the case. If you are truly honest you will have to admit that in many cases INSIDE the meeting hall the anti Obama/reform crowd took control of the hall and shouted down any questioner or participant in the crowd or on the dais that was pro Obama/reform.

or you weren't paying attention. Yes there was a lot of passion and shouting and booing but no violence until the SEIU showed up. WHy you don't see the distinction is a mystery to me and why you never objected to common citizens loudly voicing their displeasure with Bush is not a mystery to me. You have two standards. I don't.

I am not getting your point here? If there is one please be more clear. This is during the presidential election. The town halls today are related to a bill being proposed that will destroy healthcare in our country and cost every "working" person (to start)2% of their income, as well as a tax on business, but no cost if you don't work or get paid under the table ... tell me again how illegals would not be covered. We already know honest working americans will pay more than their fair share.

You aren't getting my point because you don't want to. My point is that both sides have at times used intimidation to remove people from supposedly open meetings. It's called politics folks. Yet for some reason this year it is considered "tyranny", and "trampling the constitution". Everybody just relax and tone down the rhetoric.

MM, I don't agree with what the SEIU did in St. Louis either ... but can you honestly say that that little old lady should have been threatened with arrest for carrying a sign that read "McCain=Bush"? They threatened to charge her with trespassing - how can it be trespassing if she is carrying the sign but not trespassing if she throws the sign away?
Or do you think the 3 teachers should have been barred from the Bush rally simply for wearing t-shirts that said "Protect Our Civil Liberties"?

who was saying that? I did not see a post about that or anything on the news. Guess I missed it. All I saw is the dems making crazy comments how the people at the town hall meetings were all set up by the RNC and calling them names. That has been proven wrong and that some of the radical signs they showed on the news were actually democrats "trying" to make it look like radical right wing people. Then of course the Obama town halls all hand picked people and giving him softball set up questions.
Look HR3200 is going down in flames (thank God) and maybe just maybe Obama will listen to the public outrage and push back before it is too late and he can't recover ... assuming is is not too late already.

I know you hate it when I ask, but can you provide a source to back up this statement?

On this we can agree ... and I hope it forces true bi-partisnship and a better solution to health insurance/health care reform.

Neither are appropriate but there is no moral equivalence. There is a big difference between asking someone to leave, threatening arrest by an officer of the law, etc. and beating the crap out of a handicapped man by an SEIU goon. If you see those as the same I can't help you. I just don't agree and most thinking people would see them as being vastly different.

I've not heard of the little old lady scenario, but would have a question or two before deciding if the action was proper or improper: Were signs prohibited? Were other, more "favorable" signs allowed?
Like I said, I know nothing of the details and thus am not saying it was right or wrong.
Comments?
