Check out this recently declassified report from DHS. What an affront to every single veteran returning to the U.S. after having served our country overseas.
Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment
Don't name any groups which makes me think that is because there are none or they were afraid to name any as it would allow a specific group to respond and discredit the whole basis for the report. They refer to the nut job that went postal in Pittsburgh as if a single event by an obviously unstable person denotes some big conspiracy of unnamed extremist groups. Also had to go all the way back to the 1995 Oklahoma City bombings. In essence there is no proof for their theories presented, just out and out speculation.
Napolitano should be fired for letting this shameful document see the light of day. Timing is curious as well since tomorrow hundreds of thousands of patriotic Americans will descend on state capitals and other cities to protest the outrageous tax structure in the U.S. It will be a peaceful message to our government about our being fed up with taxes.

Scary.
I've attached the URL so you can read for yourself. I am especially troubled by the statement about the Federal Government actively trying the sway public opinion, even if it is overt. I thought their role was to serve the public, not to tell the public what to think.
And then there are the statements about PERCEIVED threats to US sovereignty, PERCEIVED US job losses, the PERCEIVED stance of the administration on a range of issues, PERCEIVED infringement of the government on civil liberties, the PERCEIVED lack of governmental action on illegal immigration, that recently proposed gun control legislation is PERCEIVED to be a threat to our right to bear arms, and the PERCEIVED threat from the rise of other countries. Duh.
Other than the parts about threatening to use violence I guess, by their definition, I am a "right wing extremist". I think one of the biggest threats to US sovereignty may be the guy sitting in the White House. Just ask the 1,000 Goodrich employees in Opelika about to lose their jobs if theirs are "perceived" job losses. What about my "perception" that the government's telling me when, where, by whom, and how much I will get medical care is an infringement on my civil liberties. And the "perception" about illegal immigration when the Messiah is suggesting that we solve the illegal crisis by just making them all citizens. And regarding the "perception on gun control -- the wisdom of our forefathers may just now be surfacing. Maybe they wanted the threat of an armed resistance to the type of Government that we are headed toward to be a method of keeping such a runaway Government in check.
I've never been what most call an "activist" but I may join the next TEA party. Where and when is the next one in the Montgomery area?

This is unreal, and yes, the second amendment was not put in for hunting or self defense - it is there to guard against tyranny.

I just read this report and I didn't read it the same way. They way I read it, Rightwing Extremist Organizations (skinheads and their ilk) would try to exploit conerns that might lead people to want to join them. Also, I read it that the RWEO's would try to recruit veterans who have military skills or encourage their followers to obtain military training. I don't think that is the same thing as saying veterans would be Right Wing Extremists or that anyone else who has concerns would necessarily join up with a RWEO. These RWEOs are out there and like most organizations of this type, they try to recruit. I didn't read that the they thought that veterans would be likely to sign up; but that these orgs would like to have those skills possessed by vets. I don't think the document was saying that anyone who had concerns about illegal immigration, gun control, changes in the economy, etc are Right Wing Extremists. We've all seen and read things about these organization and how at the very center of their beliefs is hatred and racism. And that's not the same as just being conservative and patriotic.
Go back and read it again.

I'll give you that there are psychos out there that think the Pope being Catholic is a conspiracy designed to deny them their "God-given" right to (fill in the blank). But I'll tell ya that the O/R/P cartel's actions in a scant 75 or 80 days may well have catalyzed their predisposition to think the Feds are going to take away ALL of their rights - and they aren't the types to roll over and play dead.
What I chafe at is the tone of the paper. Its almost like our Federal Government has decided that "Right" is wrong.
And the repeated use of the word "perceive" is also very interesting - especially since I'd bet the majority of Americans "perceive" it the same way -- and in the eyes of the perceiver perception is reality.
Off my soapbox. Trying to figure out how to get the taxes owed column out of the five figure range.....

I read this DHS report and came away pis***. Does this mean that any person who speaks out against further gun registration laws, immigration, taxes, or opposes Obama's spending plan is a threat. I did not see the first piece of evidence in the report that ttalks about specific issues. It's all about "this might happen".
The first paragraph of the report is as follows:
Threats from white supremacist and violent antigovernment groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts. Nevertheless, the consequences of a prolonged economic downturn—including real estate oreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit—could create a fertile recruiting environment for rightwing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities similar to those in the past.
(This insinuates that the only people to be feared in this country are white. I just read the newspaper this AM and the pictures of those arrested were not white.)
The second paragraph is racial from a DHS perspective.
Rightwing extremists have capitalized on the election of the first African American president, and are focusing their efforts to recruit new members, mobilize existing supporters, and broaden their scope and appeal through propaganda, but they have not yet turned to attack planning.
(When I hear comments about Obama, they are not racial. Rather, people are talking about spending issues, poor economy, his stance on Cuba, Afghanistan, etc.) This dog will not hunt.

Yes, but can't you see that the RWEO's (skinheads, and their ilk) would perceive the election of an African American as a threat?
When I read the document that they are talking about Skin heads and such, it makes much more sense.

I read the document and while they mention skinheads they also made a point to mention people with Ron Paul bumper stickers for God's sake! Can you imagine a similar report coming out of DHS during the Bush administration that singled out people as potentially being left wing extremist terrorists because they had a Cynthia McKinney bumper sticker?!?!
C'mon Hound, this surely has to give you some angst that there is not a shred of evidence to support what they were contending and that the release of this document was politically timed to coincide with the Tea Party's going on all over the country. And besides, I am much less worried about a crackpot theory about the increase of skinheads than I am about Islamofascists who we KNOW for sure are every day planning attacks against this country domestically and abroad.
This is probably one of the worst documents I have ever seen come out of a government agency and we need to know who wrote it. Was it some long-term civil servant or an Obama appointee? We deserve to know the truth and the head of DHS deserves to lose her job.

I'm not saying it's a great document -- I haven't seen an intelligence assessment yet that you couldn't punch holes in. Don't really know about the timing thing -- it's possible that the timing was planned or it may just be an odd coincidence. It does make one wonder why a "For Official Use Only" document is out on the web for the general public... Not classified, but FOUO generally indicates some level of sensitivity.
I'm not a big fan of DHS. Our agency did some work with them and frankly, it seemed to me that they were disorganized, and they only wanted to hear the "facts" when they were in line with what they already planned to do. Besides they hired an Office Director that we fired for incompetence. (He wasn't actually fired, but rather was told that he should take his "skills" elsewhere. DHS has a lot of money, but they don't seem like they have a really good plan.
