for a good orthopedist. I had my knee replaced almost a year ago. It has not healed well, I have a slight limp and daily pain. I've been back to the surgeon that did it, but he has decided it is muscle weakness and I need to go back to PT. Well, I'm doing that, but I've told him over and over that the pain is under my kneecap, not in the muscles around my knee. I believe that I have scar tissue or a tissue pinched and I asked for him to scope it. But no, he insists on the PT. I feel like he isn't listening. So I want to go and get a 2nd opinion. Has anyone dealt with an orthopedist that they trust and would recommend?
The surgeon that did my knee, at Andrews Sports Medicine, also did both of my husband's knees, and he recovered ahead of schedule. The only thing different is I had robotic-aided surgery, which is supposed to help the surgeon cut better.

Dr Robert Wolf in Birmingham. First class surgeon, no BS, works out of the Grandview Medical Center. Did my knee replacement and I have to remind myself occasionally that it isn't the one I was born with. Please give him a try. We recommended a friend who had fallen and she got a BS diagnosis here in Montgomery. He diagnosed it as a crack, not a break in her hip and told her to just be easy with it. She is now getting around quite well.

Hound, sorry for your knee troubles. All the ortho's I know are in Atlanta and I doubt you want to travel that far. One thing I learned from the guy that did my hip is that the replacement specialists will probably pawn you off on someone else in their practice that does repairs. Hopefully not in the case of Hodja's guy but my guy told me he always refers someone with repair needs to another ortho as all the replacement guys like to do is the big carpentry work. Good luck with your knee!

We have used SouthLake Orthopedics in Birmingham for back, hip replacement and other services. They use GrandView or the OutPatient Surgery Center nest to their office. We used C J Talbert and they have a Dr Craig that is very good at pain management.

I can't recomend anyone in particular as I used an Atlanta surgeon for my knee, but a neighbor had some ortho wark done at Grand View and said the facillity and the food are excellent. He had filet mignon every day he was there. I don't remember what doctor he said he used but he highly recamended him.

Thank you for the recommedations. I'm going to check these guys out.
MM - I think you are right. I have friend in NJ that had her knee replaced. She had nothing but problems, got no action from her original surgeon, and then got 2 2nd opinions where they either sent her back to PT or verbally patted her on the head. She finally went into NYC, found a surgeon and found out that she actually had an artificial knee that was too large. She had a revision surgery on Feb 2nd, and she said she has so much less pain this time around. I have known women that had plastic surgery and ended up at revisionist plastic surgeon to undo what had been done.
I chose the Dr. I did, because 1/ he did my husband's knees and 2/he is one of the top orthopedic surgeon's in the country and operates on all those high priced athetes. It never occurred to me that I would have a problem, but I am where I am. I'm really ticked off about being sent to PT to "strengthen my muscles" when in fact, I am 99% sure it is scar tissue. His unwillingness to consider that it might be something more than "weak muscles" has just frosted me.
