Trump says we're 'rounding the turn' on Covid-19. Yet, the stats show an increase and it becoming worse as we head into cold weather. What do you think?

Fish, Getting COVID is darn near inevitable, it’s just a matter of time.
Nearly everyone is getting well from it thankfully. The numbers that are important are hospitalizations and mortality figures.
We must do our best to protect the vulnerable (elderly and those with co-morbidities) and don't lock down, but live our best lives NOW!

Or we could use the Biden / China approach. Send troups to enforce home quarantine for all citizens. Even welding doors shut if necessary. If democrats were really interrested in controlling Covid they would quit having house parties.

Being a Senior, I look at it differently and obviously want to avoid the inevitable. I view those who gather in groups and refuse to wear a mask as selfish.

Per this UW and LATimes study and article:
Scenario 3: Universal mask use in public plus states shut down after reaching 8 daily deaths per million
AKA: The Ideal Scenario
If universal mask use, as suggested by Biden is a panacea, then Florida with its most recent mortality # of 72/day would have to increase its daily mortality to 171 to reach 8/million and hence trigger the ideal scenario number requiring a full, statewide, shutdown. A 100/day increase in mortality is highly unlikely, wouldn't you say, with or without the mask mandate. To me, it suggests that Florida is on the right track with the mandates it has in place at this time.
|
This is what I think Trump means: We have more understanding of the virus, we have treatments that really help and we are closer to a vaccine than we were at the beginning. People recognize that mask wearing and social distancing can help and the majority of people are practicing these things. We have figured out that we aren't getting the virus from touching surfaces, people are no longer panic buying, and the economy is coming back. So given all that, we have turned a corner from where we were. HE doesn't mean people aren't getting sick or dying, but while more people are getting sick, not as many people are dying.

The virus has indeed been at least a contributing factor in many deaths, and the enforced isolation leading to those deaths has to be heartbreaking for the decedent and their family. But on the other end of the spectrum I got it, was inconvenienced by a lack of the sense of smell for a couple weeks, but am over it and am going back for a retest Tuesday to see if I am a good candidate for plasma donation. I have no idea whether my doctor reported that I was infected, and don't really feel it would be of much use if it were.
The sky is not falling, and I strongly suspect all this Chicken Little talk will wane after November 3.

I never went to the doctor for COVID. I recognized I might have it and monitored my temperature very carefully, while watching for other symptoms, symptoms that never came. I only asked to be tested some time later when I went to see my doc for a pesky infection with an abrasion that resulted from a freak accident in the barn of an old place we recently bought. I described my symptoms to my doc and he said he would test me to see for sure. The results were I had the antibodies and a small residual infection. My purpose for the retest is to ensure there is no more active infection and begin the process of determining if I am a plasma donation candidate. If I am, the inconvenience of spending an hour or two hooked up to a plasma sucking machine will be well worth it if it helps a fellow human being beat the virus.

From Trump's rally this weekend...he is talking numbers and is lying to fool voters.
“We’re rounding the turn ... our numbers are incredible,” Trump claimed nonetheless. More than 83,000 infections — a record — were reported Friday alone.
|
Why are you so worried about it? You don't like Trump, you think everything he says is a lie, so what difference does it make to you? You aren't going to vote for him.

You sure are sensitive. You posted above GF and I provided you my take on the subject. And yes, I did vote for Biden. While you have told us you do not plan to vote for either Trump or Biden. By the way....Trump does lie big time...that's the history of Trump and I assume that is one reason you plan to sit out this election.
|
I'm not sensitive but the "Trump lies" is so continually on the lips of democrats, it becomes tiresome. Show me a politician from either party that doesn't lie - Saint Obama also lied, as did GWB, Clinton and you can go all the way back. I worked for the federal govenment for 32 years and I can tell you that about 1/2 of everything you are told is true is a lie - maybe not an out and out lie, but twisted to make it seem more favorable than it really is.
Take COVID - Biden is trying to convince voters that he can do a better job managing COVID - it is a lie. He can't do anything more than is currently being done. He wants a mask mandate. Do you honestly believe that if he issues a mask mandate that everyone who currently does not wear a mask will suddenly see the light and wear one? Remember the "putting lipstick on a pig"? Well, that is what Biden is doing - putting lipstick on a pig.

It may be tiresome to you, but his lack of character is tiresome to me. Trump has normalized lying. I have taught my kids and grandkids that lying is wrong. Now, my grandkids say….”Lying is wrong except if you are Trump”. Hound, they all lie is true but it is the magnitude of the lying.
This describes his so well it is worth posting...
“Let me say it more plainly: it is not biased to describe Trump as a liar. It is a matter of objective and demonstrable fact. The Washington Post has catalogued more than 22,000 false or misleading claims over the course of his time in office -- and those are just the ones that he's uttered in public. And he has lied as much as 50 times a day during the final stretch of this campaign.
"The depths of his dishonesty is just astounding to me," Trump's former chief of staff, Marine Gen. John Kelly has told friends, "The dishonesty, the transactional nature of every relationship, though it's more pathetic than anything else.
He is the most flawed person I have ever met in my life"
If Trump was Catholic, he would have to have a confession booth in the West Wing and on Air Force One.

Goofy takes the George Costanza route, it isn't a lie if you really believe it. A confessional would be a waste for someone like Goofy because you actually have to be sorry for your sins to be forgiven.
The part Goofy doesn't get is that the lies that matter are the ones that actually matter. Like you can keep your doctor. Or you will save $2,500 per year. Or the truck driver drank his lunch before the accident. Or I never discussed business with my son or got a dime from his pay for play activities. Or I was against the Iraq war. Or his constant lies about what Trump said about the people in Charlottesville. Or the lies about Trump not condemning white supremacy or neo nazis. Or the lie that he never said he would ban fracking despite the numerous videos of him doing exactly that. Or the lie that he would only ban fracking on Federal lands. Or the lie that Putin paid bounties on American soldiers. Or the lie that not a single person lost their private health insurance due to Obamadon'tcare. Or the lie that he never called Trump racist and xenophobic for restricting travel from China back in January. Or the lie that he and Obama never separated children from adults at the border. Or the lie that 38,000 people were released from Federal prison by clemency or pardon by the Obama administration (it was actually 2,000 out of the 22,000 requests). Or the lie that he was never warned that Hunter's business activities in Ukraine, Russia and China was a potential conflict of interest problem.
I could go on but the point is that these lies matter to real people....but because it is Dementia Joe they don't matter to Goofy.

So much like when he was bragging that because someone else owned a prius he did not have to trade in the big truck to save the planet from global warming - again we see that he demands others are held to a standard that he does not hold himself to.
In about 8 days I hope someone keeps an eye on him or tightens his jacket that ties in the back and ups his meds.

Let me point something out to you. General Kelly is a West Point grad. Do you that one of the rules of West Point is that you don't lie, cheat or tolerate those who do? The vast majority of military officer are Myer Briggs ESTJ - Extroverted, Sensory, Thinking Judgement. If I had to guess, I woud say that Trump is likely Extroverted, Intuitior, Thinking, Perceiver. The difference is that miltary officers generally go with what can be proved, not what they intuit; they are objective, not feelers, and finally Judgement Controllers meaning they like decisions to be final; whereas perceivers like the options open and are reluctant to make a final decision. That is why all those militay officers find Trump frustrating.
While I admire General Kelly, he would never be a good fit for Trump. In order to understand Trump you have to look obectively at his actions and turn off his verbal. He's a big ideas guy, not detail oriented. He has no patience for detail. So what you see as "lying" is just that the details aren't important to him and he is puzzled when people make a big deal.

"While I admire General Kelly, he would never be a good fit for Trump." Trump told the country he would appoint the best and the brightest....then he appppointed a number of military. All were fired or quit. None were a good fit for Trump yet he could not figure it out.
|
I suspect he admires them until he has to work with them. It's hard to explain but the military teaches you think a certain way - you come up with a logical and coordinated and detailed plan, you execute and then you adjust. My observation is that most people don't operate that way, particularly in elected office - they are usually not detail people, they usually are content to throw an idea out there and see what sticks and there is no adjustments. They want to do "something" and want to leave the planning to someone else. The military is unique and most of the government does not work that way. You should see the wonderful reviews that a Defense person who goes to the State Department gets. Diplomats are the original "lets build a snowman in the desert and see if it melts" people. They have no idea how to plan and execute and are undisciplined thinkers.
The problem that Trump has with the military is that they are not who he thinks they are. He thinks they are soldiers of fortune and love to go off on a whim to do his bidding, but nothing could be further from the truth. He frustrates them as much as they frustrate him.
Trump has a lot of good qualities in that he is brave enough to take on issues no one else wants to touch, but he will do it in his way and he doesn't really care what other people think. That's why people either love him or hate him.

Read Hound's response carefully. The military mindset is one that has been molded over years of conflict, learning from wins and losses. The military approach is to devise a plan that is as sound as one could imagine, but to also plan what to do if some or all of it doesn't work. Plan for the best outcome, but be prepared if that outcome doesn't materialize. It seems Trump's mindset is "it will work". I don't know if he accepts "well, what if it doesn't?" comments from staff, but I can see that his approach to problem solving might turn off those who can't temorarily put aside their military heritage and thought processes.

I think that the mindset - most Generals went to the service academies- starts so early in their education that they don't even realize how much it is a part of their thinking and approach. I sometimes wish that Trump had a more realistic view of the military. But you know what? All those years I worked for DOD and have been married to my husband, and accepted the mindset - I would not change a thing. From what I read, it would seem that Kelly tried to bring order to the WH staff, and he offered the President his perspective. I think he served honorably.
