CDC has got to be one of the most inconsistent entities in this whole China Virus thing (and that is saying a LOT because inconsistency on the "science" has been rampant).  Now THEY say "open the schools".  What do you think is behind that?  Are there profit margins that help CDC if all these kids are back in school?

The CDC has indeed been all over the place.  Don't wear masks.....wear them or you are Hitler.....  Mortality rate is 10%...mortality rate is 0.4%......school is dangerous.....open the schools.

From what I have read from studies around the world, including the much discussed one in S. Korea, is that schools are not a significant threat when it comes to spreading the virus or the implications of children getting infected.  The data shows that the Wuhan virus is less deadly to children than the ordinary flu.  So maybe the CDC is just finally catching up to the science, which is a scary thought.

Therein lies the problem "less deadly" as if it is okay if a small percentage of kids die.

I think the CDC is trying to find a way to align with Trump's demand that schools reopen. It's hard to call people back to work and not open the schools, because there isn't enough child care and you can't expect school children to stay home alone and do their school work.

Personally, I think it should be left to the school districts - they are on the ground, they know the population and they know the risks.  They are the ones that have to figure out the santization and manage the risk.  This is one of those times where it makes no sense to sit in Washington and issue directives, because every community is different.

of the CDC by the Trump train wreck of an administration.  This idiot has done his dead level best at making politics (his demented politics) as the controlling element of CDC, the Justice Dept, the courts, the military and even the evangelical church.  When politics is allowed to overrule science, justice, the law, national defense and the Almighty we are lost as a free society.

Young kids die far more often due to the flu than the Wuhan virus.  Never heard you on board with closing schools every winter because some kids will get the flu.  Just as an example of the madness, 80% of those that died in 2008/2009 H1N1 pandemic were under the age of 65.  Almost the exact opposite of the Wuhan virus.  And yet we never closed schools.  So leave the nonsensical emotional claptrap aside and think logically.  There is zero reason to close the schools and we can easily make accomodations for students and teachers at greater risk rather than punishing everyone.  Oh, and half a million died from the H1N1 virus worldwide....and there was no mass economic closures.

Yup, Barack Ebola weaponized every government entity - and yet you still worship him.

First of all, this is nothing like the flu  There is a vaccine for the flu, and those kids that don't get it are the same parents who don't get their kids innoculated against childhood diseases.

The reason nothing happened with H1N1 is that Obama didn't deal much with it, it didn't spread as quickly and eventually, it just petered out.

You just go on with your drivel MM.  You are wrong and you have a handful of followers here that are also wrong.  And I still say, let the school districts decide what is right for them.  They are the ones that will have to deal with the consquences if they guess wrong.

First of all, this is nothing like the flu  There is a vaccine for the flu, and those kids that don't get it are the same parents who don't get their kids innoculated against childhood diseases.

You are right, with respect to the flu it is far less dangerous to those under the age of 18.  That is a 100% certifiable fact that 80% of the deaths from the flu occur in people under the age of 65.  And according to the CDC as of a few days ago a grand total of 36 children under the age of 15 have died from this virus.  That's a 0.03% mortality rate on confirmed cases...not total cases....confirmed ones!!!!  CDC estimates that around 600 children under age 5 die from the flu each year.  Regardless of what causes the flu, it is far more dangerous to school age children and more of them will die from it and pneumonia than the Wuhan virus. So open the schools.

The reason nothing happened with H1N1 is that Obama didn't deal much with it, it didn't spread as quickly and eventually, it just petered out.

That is factually incorrect.  You are probably confusing the H1N1 with SARS and MERS, both of which did peter out, but were far more deadly than both H1N1 and the Wuhan virus.  The H1N1 infected over 60 million Americans and killed over half a million people worldwide.  In fact, it is still with us to this day and shows up every flu season.

You just go on with your drivel MM.  You are wrong and you have a handful of followers here that are also wrong.  And I still say, let the school districts decide what is right for them.  They are the ones that will have to deal with the consquences if they guess wrong.

So as it turns out your fact free post is the actual drivel.  You would think by now Hound you would learn not to post things without doing your homework.  But I do agree that it should be the local school districts that should make the decision, but it should be based on the science and on the totality of the impact of continued school closings and not just rank emotional pandering about "saving one child" which is utter nonsense.  And that is where the media and people like you who deny the science are doing them a great disservice.

It admits that keeping schools closed will cause more deaths than Covid.  So what are the whiney liberals gonna do now?

They are going to do what they do best.  Emote and deny science when it suits them.  This is all about preventing parents from going back to work to keep the economy in the tank.  No more, no less.  Follow the science stupid people!

Do you deny Trump is at least trying to politicize the CDC, Justice Dept, courts, military and evangelical churches?  If you do you ain't paying attention.  If you don't then why aren't you as P O'd as I am?

Seems to me you are the one trying to politicize everything Trump does.

Absolutely NOTHING may come of it, and that will be crazy in my opinion, but so far the folks Trump has gotten rid of has been by legal means, and within his rights and authorities.

The Obama Admin, on the other hand, using FBI, CIA, DOJ, etc to spy on, mislead, and ambush a duly elected official has to be the most e•gre•gious politicalization ever.  Like I say, I expect nothing to come of it because they all cover their butts, but if half of it is true someone should wear an orange suit.  Sally Yates is to testify next week.  She is the one who was "shocked" on Jan 5 2017 to learn that Obama knew all about the trap set up for Flynn.  They have bad blood between them so I guess it was expected.

Schools should open and we should accommodate teachers and children at risk.  So nice to have Billy boy on my side.  He is so smart and rich and liberal........suppose he now needs to be cancelled for helping Trump's reelection bid.

CDC is a government agency that works for the President.  If he says schools shoud open, then the CDC is going to say schools should open, but I believe they have some recommendations about how that should be done.

CDC seems to be pretty independent of the President but you may be right.  And yes, they have provided some guidance for a "safe" reopening.  Admit I haven't looked at those but hopefully they are reasonable and realistic and not totally impractical and basically makes reopening impracticable.
