"All Americans must recognize that the face of terror is not the face of Islam. Islam is a faith that has made brothers and sisters of every faith. Islam is a faith of love not hate." (Sept 10)
"Islam is a vibrant faith. Millions of our citizens are Muslim. We respect the faith of Islam and honor its traditions. Our enemy does not. Our enemy does not follow the great traditions of Islam." (Oct 11)
"This war is not against a religion, not against the Muslim faith. It is a war against individuals who hate what America stands for." (Nov 20)
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am in complete agreement with the president's above comments. I cannot understand the complaints coming from conservatives and Fox News regarding Mr Obama's even more recent remarks about this struggle.

Now, be honest. Would you have felt the same way in 2002 when each of those statements was made by President George W Bush? As I say...be honest.

I agree with Obama, we had better carefully make a distinction between radical Islamists and the rest of the world of Muslims.... otherwise, we will convert this conflict into an all-out religious war. And THAT is what the apocalyptic vision of ISIS says will happen. We don't need to strengthen their resolve & encourage more of their recruits.... we need to strengthen their enemies, moderate Sunni and Shitte's. It's imperative that we let Islam sort out their own ideology rather than try to impose our will on them.....
It's easier to kill people than it is to kill an idea or a religion.... and we had better quit seeing the world thru the lens of a Hollywood movie wherein the good guys win and return home to a better world. The Middle East is a tar baby. Once you put your hand in, you can't take it out.

AMEN Copper. Some of the nutty comments on this forum would make an excellent slogan on an ISIS recruiting poster.
And, Mr. H do you reject W's opinion of Islam...maybe he needed the laxitive!?

I recently had a fairly devout Muslim client (husband and wife) who moved from Syria about 10 years ago and I know 2 other architects who are Muslim. I can assure you "deep down" they do NOT feel that way...maybe they are the only 4 that applies to but I doubt it. Do you even know any Muslims? If not, you should try to get to know a few assuming you can find any in Alabama who aren't afraid to admit it.
BTW, still waiting to hear back from Lighthouse.....?

I wonder how many people have been recruited over the "JV team" comment by the President.

Let's turn that statement around and see why it doesn't make sense.
"I believe that, deep down, any American would kill a Muslim, because all we really want is their oil". Both of these are equally ridiculous.
Sadly, if you are a moderate & peaceful Muslim in the Middle East then you are in grave danger from radical Sunni's. If you are a moderate Muslim in the US, then you would be wise to worry about what radical Christians will do to you.

That is about the most asinine reply to a serious comment as I have ever heard!
I'm pretty sure my Muslim clients were not involved in the events of 9/11. I assume you are from Alabama. As such would you appreciate a black citizen of your great state trying to blame the entire white race for the lynchings carried out by a few stupid white cowards?

Go read the original post. Those were comments by President George W Bush. President Obama has expressed similar opinions. Two presidents...one opinion on Islam as a faith.
It is interesting that no one in the rightwing media or on this forum had or is having anything negative to say about Bush's remarks but go ape over the same sentiments when expressed by Obama. I guess the R and D after their respective names MUST be recognized.
There is only one president JG...Barack Obama...too bad so few on this forum are willing to accept that fact!
PS: Still waiting for Lighthouse to check back in.....

Thanks for that quote.... it should remind us all how short our memories are, and how much we are influenced by (dare I use the word?) ....propaganda.
Here is another interesting factoid to put into the mix.
Anybody here know who Grover Norquist is? Of course we do. Super-conservative champion of the anti-tax movement, darling of the Tea Party, managed to loop most Congressmen into signing a 'no new taxes' pledge. He's the conservative's conservative.
His wife is a Palestinian Muslim........
Maybe we shouldn't be so quick to paint all of Islam with the same brush.

If you think Bush 43 and Oblamer have the same thoughts and attitude toward foreign policy, radical muslims, etc then you need to do a reality check.
Oblamer's speech the other day = "I'd like to teach the world to sing, in pefectly harmony"
Radical muslim = "I'd like to slit your throat, while you sing"
I don;t think there is a major push to blame the entire Muslim population for these atrocities, but to deny their roots is the insane part.

I notice you use the term "radical" before Muslim. The problem is many weighing in today (Franklin Graham, Ted Cruz, among others) are at least de-emphasing the "radical" part or dropping it all together! Sorry, but some are in fact pushing to place ALL Muslims and the faith of Islam up as the target, to make this a religious war. If you dare to pay close and unbiased attention to What Obama is saying you might discover you and he are not that far apart.

Far apart in that he refuses to see any element of Islam/Muslim that is driving the religious terroists. He claims that to call them Radical Islam is to give them credibility. Their taking over major portions of Syria, Iraq, and now Libya and others gives them way more credibility, and emphasizes the lack of understanding and appreciation of their goals.
I'd like to teach the world to sing will not cut it as a foreign policy for these guys. Unfortunately, though, I am not sure any foreign policy will handle the situation, but I want someone else trying
Again, to equate Oblamer and Bush 43 on this policy is insane.
