Went to Harbor Docks tonight at 7.   On my way up the ramp ran into a party of 6 that was leaving.  They told me that there was a 45 minute wait for a table and that it would be more than an hour before you could get food.

I found that hard to believe and proceeded to the hostess station.   The hostess told me basically the same thing.  I then asked if we could be seated at one of the 7 vacant tables that were not dirty.  The hostess told me no that those tables were reserved.  I said what about the 2 dirty tables.  they were "unavailable".  I then asked the hostess why the tables were reserved, because last week I had called in and ask to make reservations and was told that they do not take reservations.  She asked me who told me that.  I told her that whoever answered the phone.  I don't keep track of such peoples names and presume that a business would not let a person answer the phone who was unaware of the rreservation policy.

I then asked about sitting at the bar and ordering appetizers.  She said I would have to sit at the end of the deck and wait.  where she indicated there were no chairs.

Interestingly enough,  my waitress from last week and the keyboard player both came up and spoke to me and said they were glad to see me back.  All I could tell them was that I had to leave because I could not get a table.

This is the sixth time that I have been to Harbor Docks this year.  I left and went to the club to eat where I was greeted with open arms and prompt service.

I will give Harbor Docks another chance,  I will call and make a reservation.   If I cannot get a reservation or if my reservation is not honored,  I will be through with them.

It is sad to see another service establishment that works so hard to be good,  sees a temporary success and then shoots themselves in the foot by mistreating regular customers.

Suggest next time if you encounter a problem ask to speak with Chris (Shay on the Forum).  He is trying really hard to do right by all, but it doesn't surprise me  that once everyone found that there really is a good alternative to Sinclairs on this side of the lake, HD would get very busy.  It is easy to give great service when things are slow - the real test comes when they are slammed as they apparently were when you visited.  Not sure what the deal was with the four "reserved" tables....could have been a special occasion or something like that but Chris should be able to expliain the apparent disconnect between the staed policy and the four reserved tables.

If you decide to take it up with Chris directly, please let us know what he says.

Had a similar situation about a month ago, but ours was hostess stated an hour wait (not a problem), as we arrived about 7:45 pm on a Saturday night. As we sat outside on the deck waiting we noticed during this time there must have been 7+ tables inside and out that were clean and not being utilized (actually never used during our wait), guess they did not have enough wait staff to cover all the table. Found this sort of strange - why not use these tables (shorten the wait) and let the customers know they were shorthanded this evening and would get to them ASAP or at least take a quick appetizer and drink order as when we were finally seated and ordered our appetizers and meals were served together. Do not get me wrong our food was good and our waitress was great just strange to not fully utilize all available tables.

The wait would not have been a problem for my group if we had been permitted to use an empty table order drinks and get an appetizer, even if it was just corn chips or bread.

You just don't want to go over and stand by the Group W bench with the Great Unwashed.   Many of whom were smoking.

And at the end of the day,  when you are told "we don't take  reservations" and then when you arrive you can't get a table because the tables are all "reserved", and not for the party of 25 inside that seems to be causing the problem, ( if a party of 25 causes a problem then don't have parties of 25) you have to wonder if the guy in charge needs to revisit the wizard for a warranty check.

I have a feeling my day is coming.  I spent Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Prattville store working for Dee Dee.  Meanwhile, Steven kept informing me that he was overwhelmed, and having a hard time finding places to put boats he was taking in while I was away.  Looks like a very busy week next week and I can only have faith that we can keep up without major disappointments.  If anyone knows of someone with mechanical skills needing a part time job next week let me know.

We talked about it when you called about the Tooner.  You had a guy bringing a motor from Pratville and he was going to come look at it before July 4
I have not really missed it as I have 7 other water craft running well.

Did have to put some drive oil in the reservoir on the Scarab.  Is that serious.

Still playing with the Tach for the yamaha  Yamaha guy told my brother it was the wrong impedance.  I am not buying that.  does it take pulses of the alternator/ magneto in the fly wheel.  is that six or 12 pole?

when is a good time to bring the whaler.  it goes fine till you try to open it up fast at which point it dies completely.

Dont matter if it is 9 or 12 pole, AS LONG as it is SKRIPPER pole.  Just bring the boat.

He is saying that his business may be in the same situation as Harbor Docks, where people may not be served as quickly as they would prefer. Last year I had to drop my boat off at Cathouse on a Saturday - I figured that we would go to Oskar's and have lunch while they replaced the starter and impeller, but they did not even do repairs on Saturday. I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday before the repairs were complete... :-)

do you know how to say "BAD CAT"
he did that once to me,  I said  "BAD CAT" now he fixes my boat while I wait.

Now if Icould just get him to fix my boat "before" it breaks.

I would like to first apologize for taking this long to respond. I would also like to Thank everyone again for the negative and positive feed back that all yawl have gave.

.

Issue 1 Signs on tables with Reserve on them

This was to try to stop people from seating themselves in retrospect this gave a wrong message to people waiting and people who had called about reservations

Why people can not seated when they see open tables.

My focus this year has been quality not quantity with the regular specials were doing

The production of the items takes allot longer than in the past

So there are times I direct Jennie The front of the house manager to hold the door

So we can make sure we take care of the people that have seated and have ordered

The best we can!!!

I understand this is frustrating but I would rather someone get a little inpatient

About waiting and then have a good meal! Verses being seated and have a bad meal.

Please keep the comments coming we can only learn and become better.  If anyone would like to contact me personally my Cell # 334-799-8604 Chris Zinn

Sounds reasonable. I take it from that response that reservations are not taken. Not my preference, but not my business. I wouldn't mind if you had to pay for reservations and such payment was credited to yor bill.

I would think you would want them seated with apologies for the long wait as opposed to just hanging out, if they choose to hang out as opposed to just leaving.
