The U.S. Post Office should be privatized overtime and the cost of mailing a letter should be what ever is determined by competition. My guess is that it would be well above $0.44 on average per small envelop and not a one price goes anywhere. But so what? With online banking, email, text, fax, phone, internet, and other electronic means of communication, I find that I have little use for the U.S. mail being delivered to, or picked up from, my residence. The Post Office is operating at such a huge loss, the immediate actions should be to close offices, lay off workers, reduce standard delivery to 3 days per week, and figure out how to use their priority shipping to compete with UPS and FedEx. The unions and left-leaning politicians will do their best to prevent any intelligent action.

I agree. I have maybe mailed 5 letters so far this year. You still have a bunch of old timers writing checks and mailing them. You know the ones. The people that still write checks at the check out line.

And don't even start to pull it out of their pocket and purse until the cashier is finished checking the groceries and staring at the customer, waiting for the payment.

What gets me is the way the little 'blue hairs' will clutch that purse like they are at a convention of purse snatchers till the total is given.

LOL I want to see the ones without direct deposit or a checking account receive their benefit checks.
Mail Boxes may become an American Icon and an antique.
Where wil the weirdo's and scam artist have their post office boxes.
How would those in prison receive or send mail.
Oh, this is getting better all the time.
