I have a bimini top on my pontoon boat that is only 3 years old but has black mold spots from previous owner closing it up wet. I have tried some mildew and mold cleaners but only lightened up the stains a bit. Someone told me to use Jomax but is it OK to use on canvas/cotton material.

I would use it. Make sure you follow the instructions and I would not leave it on any longer than necessary. Soak it real good with a garden sprayer, scrub with a truck brush and then rinse good with hose.

This late in the season I will wait and use it in the spring for any that gets on it this winter.  Thanks for the info.

You are welcome. I use 2 or 3 gallons a year for different things including my house and houseboat. You can get it at Lowes or Do-it centers.

Jomax simply stimulates or more efficiently spreads the bleach that you use along with it.  I could be totally wrong here, but I would think the real question is "can I use bleach on a bimini?"

and fyi if it were me I would go ahead and do it now, AND in the spring when you crank back up. if mildew sits too long even jomax and bleach can't help.

Clean it now and see what you get. If it cleans up, keep it inside a garage or somewhere it will stay clean. If it doesn't clean up, you have all winter to watch for a sale on a new one.

I think it is too late now because it has been on there for the two years I have owned it. I did use some mildew and mold remover on it and it looks better but I think the stains are there to stay.  Thanks for all the help.  John

Does cotton & bleach get along?
