Driving home after a Doc appointment in Alex City today on Hyw 280 at 2:00 pm.  Just short of Colley Creek Road heading toward  Dadeville.

A cock, ring neck pheasant flies across the median, sets it wings and lands short of the tree line.

Now folks, I'm a hunter, Nebraska native and have shot/cleaned eaten hundreds of pheasants, so believe me -- it was a mature ring neck pheasant.

Any clues, still sctatching my head..  TB

What kind of Meds  did the doc give you, lol?  I never cease to be amazed at where I see dead animals on the roadway.  Makes me wanna ask where in the heck did they come from, this is town, not the woods.

when I was in Omaha the first time a co-worker had two Brittany spaniels and loved to hunt pheasant.  Monday mornings during hunting season were always filled with pheasant stories.

AlaHusker...

Believe I saw the same.  Kept quiet due to lack of confidence in my observation.

Same general area.  Any coincidence it's near a protected wildllfe area?  (Wind Creek State Park)

I don't believe pheasant will survive in the wild here. I once lived near a guy who raised pheasant and quail for sale to hunting preserves and now and then a pheasant would get loose. He told me to go ahead and shoot one if I saw it (farm country) since they could not survive here due to lack of some particular beggar lice type seed they need that's not native to Alabama. I used to hunt at a place between Wetumpka and Titus that raised pheasant, "Wood's Gamebird Farm", now closed. But maybe Ed is still raising birds in the area.

There is  fellow down in New Site area that raises pheasants. I can't remember his name but he is a friend's step-dad. My friend brought a bunch of cleaned marinated and ready to cook birds here for cooking once. Very good meal. Not so far away as a pheasant fly.

A place near me where "hunters" release pheasant from towers so they have to fly over the guns. Escapees are a common sight. Good for the birds. Fish in a barrel.

I have also heard that conditions are not right for pheasants to survive in the wild here.

That's not hunting, that is just killing birds.  A real hunter would never go to one of those places.  Just like those guys go to game preserves to kill big game.  It's not hunting, it's just killing stuff.
