Was out by the lake this afternoon and saw about 8-10 birds near each other feeding on the shoreline that look just like what I see at Orange Beach. A few were somewhat larger that the rest. Are there such things at freshwater water gulls? Maybe a birder can help.

lol no they are regular Golf Coast Thug Gulls and Albatrosses. They fly the water ways from the gulf up to here. The can cover the mileage in a day or 2, they just migrate up the rivers looking for fish, mussels and crayfish. Remember the miracle of the seagulls in Utah, they were from California.

Yep,those gulls are getting away from the Gulf of Mexico food supply because they are tired of mutated fish that have the flavor of British Petroleum chemical "Corexit". They are trying to preserve their health.

The gulls have been here for years.  A lake is just a small ocean to them, and as long as there are schools of shad getting torn up by stripers near the surface, the gulls will be close by eating what the stripers miss.  Shad stressed by the cold temps make for an easy meal, too.

Well...given the info above, I am going to keep my eye out for sharks and whales off my dock. Learn something every day.

I've seen some loan sharks on the lake, but no bully sharks!
