Women do not want abortions; they just don't want to be pregnant. I don't advocate abortion in lieu of birth control but accidents, rape and incest do happen. I worked with a woman whose 12 year old sister was taken advantage of by her friends older brother during a sleepover. she was terrified of what the parents would say, and went to her sister who was in her 20s. Seriously, does anyone thing a 10 or 12 year old should be forced to carry a baby to term? It's not just a physical issue, but a psychological issue as well.
Do you not think having a family member force themselves on you traumatic enough, without having to carry a baby to term if you are 10 or 12 or 14? Generally speaking, I'm of the opinion anyone who is going to force themselves on a family member is probably not too concerned about using birth control.
With regard to the health of the mother. Where did anyone come up with the idea that the life of a fetus was more important than the life of a living, breathing mother, who may have other children to raise?
It's all fine and well, GENTLEMEN, to decide that women should have no choice, when it is not your body involved. Yes, it may potentially be your offspring, but if you rape or commit incest, do you think that person is likely to stick around and care for the resulting baby? Do you call that responsible sex? And what about the day your wife's Dr. comes to you and says that it is your wife's life or the unborn fetus' life. Are you ready to go home and tell the other children that you have, that you made the choice to let their mother die, or an unborn fetus? That's not love, that is crazy.
So this is what I propose - put limits on the decision period for abortion, 6-8 weeks. Then leave it alone. If you don't approve of abortion and you don't want to have one - then don't (of course it wouldn't be you having it anyway) Same women that don't approve of abortion - if you don't believe in it, don't have one.
In the case of rape, incest let the female decide what she wants to do. If she doesn't believe in abortion, then don't have one. But if it is going to cause psychological trauma or if the age of the victim is up to 14, allow her to make her own decision with the guidance of her parents.
In the case of the mothers health or life, let her decide with her husband or partner and with the medical guidance. Women still do die in childbirth.
We criticize liberals for wanting to control every aspect of our lives, yet conservatives want to do the very same thing. Lay down a reasonable court decision and then get the government out of the decision.
Men also need to take responsibility for birth control. I always hear men talking about women using birth control, but men bear a responsibility too.
Now you can paint me a liberal and call me names, but I believe in taking a resonable approach.
