This is Fall Cruise weekend on Center Hill Lake in Tennessee. Somewhere between 100 and 150 hoseboats will be tied up on a stretch of bank enjoying the Fall weather and colors and mourning the coming end to boating season. We will have about 12 boats in our group. Today I put two butts and two briskets on the smoker for backup. On Saturday night we have a fish fry with catfish, fries, and hushpuppies. Somehow I was dubbed the cook for this meal. Other sides and deserts are provided by everyone else. What non-traditional sides do you generally serve with fried fish?

I don't know how non traditional this is but nothing better than some baked cheese grits with some fried fish!

I like black bean & corn salsa...another side is chili lime corn. You can grill the corn of course.  Both kinda give a balance to the fried stuff. Let me know if you want the recipes.

BTW I love houseboats. We used to beach out up almost every weekend on Lanier and cook out. great fun. Wish we had them on Martin.

Broccoli Salad. Small, raw Florets of broccoli mixed with purple onion, golden raisins and toasted chopped pecans. Sauce of vinegar, sugar and mayo. Fixed ahead/served cold. Topped with crumbled Bacon!!! Oww.
That's second behind the cheese/garlic grits, hushpuppies e/w an overload of yellow onion sticking out and Sweet potato fries sprinkled with Cajun salt. Leapin' Lipitor!!

Of the sides brought, a corn salad made with whole kerned corn, sweet red onions and BBQ frito's was the best. I will try to get the recipe and pass it on. Second was a corn casserole made and served in a cast iron skillet. We had the usuals, cole slaw, fries, hushpuppies but also sweet potato fries. The desert bar was great with pineapple upside down cake, chocolate cake, and brownies with fudge filling stuck in the middle.
