I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with any of the Gas Caddies or dollies? I'm thinking about purchasing one that holds 29 gallons. Overton's has one called Gas Caddy Portable fueling station that is $300 and Bart's has one called Tempo Gas Walker it also holds 29 gallons and it sells for $400. It appears to be a more sturdy model and it says it will gravity feed at 3.5 gallons per minute. But is it worth $100 more? Just looking for any input anyone has to offer.

I have been hauling my own gas for the last 30 years. I think those gas caddies are over priced. I've got about 20 5 gallon cans and couple of bigger tanks I have accumulated of over the years. The gas caddies are not big enough in my opinion for the price. When you figure you can buy a five gallon tank at Walmart for 5 dollars.

I've been hauling it for years too, the only reason I would buy it on the lake would be if I ran out. I have 5 of the six gallon cans and that usually does me for a weekend. I guess I am getting lazy or something but I get tired of pouring those in every weekend. So I was thinking about buying one of those haulers. They certainly seem to be overpriced. I'm going to shop around some. I just wondered if anybody had any experience using one.

Do not pour the gas in -- use a product called the Super Siphon.
I have one and it will drain a 5 gallon can in about 1 1/2 minutes and never spill a drop.
See URL below, you can purchase at Academy Sports for $4.95. But since your getting lazy you can purchase online.
Let see I just saved your around $300.00 so my consulting fee of 15% will be $45 in cash. But seriously I have been using this siphon for years on the boats, PWC and motorcycles and given many to friends, they are worth their weight in gold.
I also was lookng at the Gas Caddies, but for $300 to $400, I said forget it not worth it.

Know what you mean several years ago I was in a Bass Pro shop and found a siphon hose like on the web site below. It's the deal it beats pouring and no clean up.

I've got one of those siphon hoses too. Works great. Paid about $15 online from a marine store, and of course I saw one at Harbor Freight in Montgomery soon after for half what I paid. On the gas caddies, how the heck would you get the darn thing into and out of your vehicle? 25-30 gallons would be darned heavy.

It`s amazing to me how anyone can have a nice lake home(500K as stated) and a high $ vessel that has to fill up 5 gal. gas cans , carry them maybe 200 ft. to the dock, pollute the water with spillige. Seems to me that they are living beyond their means. I know this happens, have seen it. Just had to respond to this, just dont make sense.

No big deal Jim I can back my 06 z71 truck that is paid for Jim right down 10 ft from the pier Jim. My $600k property is paid for Jim. I can afford to pull up at the Marina pump the $3.50 a gallon gas in my paid for Mastercraft but I don't want to Jim. I'm young enough 46 not lazy to carry gas to fill waverunner etc. It is also a convenience thing I don't want to run up to the Marina everytime the kids want to fill up the waverunner.
Talking about spillage I'm sure there is not a film of gasoline around the marina docks. Using the siphon hose prevents spillage.

You stated that you are 46 years old and have been on the lake since 1964,being at the age of 4,how in the yell did you know how crowded it was. I think I would like to buy you for what you are worth and sell you for what you think you are worth.

Bought one of the gas caddy's last year for around $300 as I recall, and it has served me well. Just take it in my P/U to the gas station, fill it up ....then transfer it to my WorkHorse back at the lake place and take it down to the dock on a cart path. I use it about half the time and use the marinas 'bout half the time. Just hate to be lined up behind the traffic at the marina and wait. And someone may ask why the h#ll would I do that..............and my answer is "for the same reason that I still wear a 40 year old 100% wool Navy issue cap on my head on the cold mornings when I go fishing early...........cause I can and I want to."

I bought a skid tank for $250. it has an electrick pump on it. I put on on an old boat trailer and fill it up twice a year with that blue gas.
That really saves the money.

Some of us have to keep the 5 gallon cans because Parker Creek Marina isn't always open. Long trip to Kowaliga. Anybody know if Veazy's will open this year?

Yes, we passed by there Saturday morning on the way to the lake. I'm from Sylacauga but I have never been to the auction. A pretty bad accident had just happened there when we went through because of all of those cars parked on the sides of 280. I bet the state will put a stop to parking on the sides of the highway there. I didn't realize they had gas tanks and that type of stuff there. I may check it out next time.

It says it would weigh about 250 lbs fully loaded. I'm gonna check Harbor Freight and see if they still have those Super Siphons and try that first.

I hope so. I've been going to that part of the lake since 1970 and I'm not sure how long that marina has been there but I can't remember it not being there. It's weird passing by there and it being closed. I'm sure the Veazey's will probably hold on to it but if you had the means that would be a nice place to invest in.

You don't know JIM?? Well, like some of the rest of us he has carried his sack on a stick hung over his shoulder a few times in life. I have to say thinking he is in with the marinas is a real hoot.
I heard gas was about thee and a half bucks at the marinas this spring. Not a bad price considering gas prices may go up to four bucks on dry land this Summer according to some financial news sources.
Some might want to go back and read past post about the price of gas at marinas. It leaves you believing gasoline is almost if not a lost leader at the marinnas.

Jim- have you ever thought that by doing things such as buying gas for at least $1 less per gallon than at the marina is a habit that could put one in a better position to buy that $500,000 home. Are you not the one always talking about a fool and his money. Between my deckboat, 40 gallon tank, and pontoon, 15 gallon tank, I will save at least $55 a fillup. Multiply thatby the number of fill ups...... well you do the math. Something wrong with being frugile? Oh yeah, welcome back.
