Just got a spreadsheet from my accountant this morning with tax payments due tomorrow. Suffice it to say we will be laying off 10 people and will not be able to create an additional 20 jobs because of this outrageous taxation. This year my partner and I will be paying much more in taxes than we took home which is exactly what happens to small businesses in this country.
And all this before we have to begin paying off the trillions in new debt that Obama is piling up. The deficit last month alone was $191 billion. HOPEless and CHANGE for the worse........

Wow ... I feel for you my friend. When it reaches the point that you are paying the government more than you are taking home ... then you are working for the government and you start losing the incentive to grow and create more jobs.
That is what the liberals do not seem to understand happens under socialism and why it always fails.
They think it makes sense to say we are going to just take more from the top 5% ... but that is the group that creates jobs and already pays the majority of taxes. Then when that group starts saying the heck with this, tax revenues decline, job growth declines. Then the government says, well I guess we need to dip in to the top 10 or 15%, and the cycle repeats itself.

I understand your pain. The tax code makes no sense and it hasn't for a long time. I'm not sure why you would have to lay off 10 people because of your tax bill... I would hope that you have accountants advising you well in advance of today of what the tax burden was going to be and you could adjust your expenses and investments during the lead up.
But surely you are not blaming Obama for your taxes this year.... you can blame him next year.

I appreciate the sympathy. Frankly it breaks my heart to have to make these changes and it was not what I went into business to do. We have a temporary staffing company that we can move them into so they have a softer landing but either way it is a big disruption to their lives and I hate it.
The reason I have to lay off 10 people is that with the general slowdown of the economy our backlog of work has gone down. In normal years we could use retained earnings to carry marginal people rather than having to aggressively protect profits by reducing our payroll costs along with reductions in our revenue. Because of the amount of cash that I have to pay out tomorrow I will be near the limit on my line of credit and I simply can't afford to carry marginal performers like I was able to in past years. Even though 10 people represents a small percentage of our overall staff every one of them is a person with a family, living expenses, etc.
No I don't blame Obama and in fact I studiously avoided blaming him. I did say and I emphatically reiterate that it will be much worse if he gets his way on spending and taxes and next time it may be more people that will lose their jobs. I resent the entire tax scheme that fails to take into account how small businesses succeed and grow. I may be the one hit with a big tax bill but I am not going to lose my job. Regular working people that I have provided a good living to for many years are the ones that lose.
That is why all the class envy crap about sticking it to the rich only suckers in the very people that get screwed over when the actual ramifications of our tax structure come into play. And yet they continue to vote for tax and spend politicians of both parties because they are told the lie that they can live at the expense of everyone else.

that you have a place where the 10 people can go so they don't end up on the street. You might be interested to know that similar things used to happen in my agency. Sometimes the Comptroller will just have to pull money from everyone and we didn't have a wide margin to find additional money. Especially when we got our budget in October and in January government workers got an overall increase in pay -- surprisingly, we didn't get extra funding to cover that. So we would have to hope that we would get our normal attrition. If that didn't happen, we could get into a furlough situation. A couple of times, it was very close.

You don't see the same "Glimmer of Hope"?
Sooner or later the rubber will hit the road and all this rhetoric will get discounted.

I think "glimmer" is too strong a word. Maybe a "spark" and that may be wishful thinking.
