I usually watch about a holf hour of Fox News in the morning. They have been doing a series on primary school textbooks and the treatment of history in them. It is shocking!! Yesterday's was the most insuting of the ones I have seen so far. They highlighted the section on the end of the Cold War. This book NEVER EVEN MENTIONED REAGAN. It had a blurb about Colin Powell's role in the end of the Cold War though. What a joke. How do these folks get these lies published?

So far the consensus is if you want to know how your childs history book treats history, just look for the section on Reagan. The left HATES Ronald Reagan and refuses to give him credit for anything. If you have kids in school and aren't reading their history books for yourself, you are doing your child a grave disservice by allowing them to go to the indoctranation center every day without challenging the status quo.

I think this is likely more about poor quality text books than some kind of leftist conspiracy. Surely all the schools in the country are not being run by left wing liberals. I don't know how it is done in Alabama, but I know that in NJ and VA, the school districts would select their text books.
It seems to me that anyone that thinks that their kids are going to get all they need to know from a school textbook is sadly mistaken. And I think this is a prime example of where good teachers make a difference by supplementing the text books with other sources of information.

You really have lived in a bubble haven't you? Not all schools are run by left wing liberals? Find me one that isn't. Oh, of course NONE of them will admit to being a liberal, much less left wing. They are much like you. In their mind they are the moderates and the rest of us are right wing nut jobs.

IF it is an isolated case, how is it that they show a different example almost every day on the news? And BTW, the challlenge to the viewers is to send examples of bias, left OR right. funny not ONE example of right wing bias has shown up.

How can you possibly believe this?
It's not like to you swallow something you see on the media. Was it Fox's contention that this is a leftist conspiracy?

You are so right, I don't 'swallow' anything I see or hear ANYWHERE unless I know it to be consistent with my own knowledge and experience. That is how I KNOW the lefet wing controls "education" (read INDOCTRANATION) in this country.

I'm squinting real hard to see how you're coming to this conclusion, but I'm not sure I do. Do people who populate education lean more to the left? I'm not sure about that.

My question is if anyone actually ever reads these textbooks before they buy them. How many times did you take a class only to have the teacher say that they hate the book and won't be using it much?

Most text books are written by graduate students who need to get something on their Vita. So maybe it's those left leaning grad students who are leaving Reagan out of the books.

I will be paying for the text book anyway. As I have found things in my child's history book that are incorrect or misleading, we are tearing it out and using it as our fire starter. The lesson to my child is you have the right to stand up for what you believe in no matter what the cost! This being the cost of having to pay for the damaged text book because I get so mad when helping her with the homework. This weeks homework was comparing Abraham Lincoln to OBAMA. I am NOT kidding! They wanted the children to list their thoughts on the similarities between the two. The ONLY things we could state were they are both lawyers and both senators from IL.
